Irish for a day
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
Mar.17
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!Today, March 17, many people become Irish for a day. Why? They want to have fun the Irish way! People celebrate the holiday with parades, Irish music and song and hearty meals of Irish food. Many also wear green shamrocks, the national symbol of Ireland, and decorate homes and businesses with them."
So what does St. Patrick’s Day celebrate? Originally the day honored St. Patrick. This good Christian man lived in Ireland during the 4th century. Legends say he chased all the snakes out of Ireland. While that is most likely not true, he did a lot of good for the Irish people.
Today in Ireland, some still celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as a religious holiday. But many others just celebrate Irish culture on that day. In the United States, New York, Chicago and other big cities have large celebrations. In Chicago the river is even dyed green for the holiday! Irish or not, people look forward to this celebration every year!
