2007 MARCH 8-10 Asia's Adventure Destinations
Five Asian adventures you won't want to miss!
Want to ride through t_____(刺激的) rapids with mountains in the background? Or visit villages where native people still keep their traditional customs? You can—and you don't have to travel very far. If you live in Asia, you can find these adventures right in your own "backyard".
White-water rafting in Nepal
In Nepal, you can experience thrilling rapids and the beauty of the Himalayas at the same time. Take a white-water rafting trip down the Sun Kosi River, world-renowned for its powerful rapids. As the river carries you along, you'll pass through open plains and dense jungle valleys. At night you'll camp beside the river on white water, enjoy the quiet, i_____(隔离的;与世隔绝的) Nepalese coutryside. You only pass by one village on the entire weeklong trip.
Adventure advice: Avoid going rafting during the monsoon season (June to September). High water levels make it dangerous.
Camel riding in Mongolia
For a slower-paced adventure, ride a camel through the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. From the back of a camel, you can take in a desert landscape of sand or rock that stretches on for miles. Stop and talk with people who live a traditional n_____(游牧的) lifestyle. Or you can go exploring for fossils of the earliest residents of the Gobi—dinosaurs.
Adventure advice: You can also ride a horse. Mongolia has the most horses per person in the world.
Cycling in Guilin,China
Get around the way the locals do by cycling through Guilin(桂林), in the Guangxi(广西) province of China. Limestone mountains rise straight up from the plains, creating a unique landscape. Bike paths take you past rural villages and farms. Admire this beautiful landscape from your bike, or stop and talk with one of the villagers working in his field.
Adventure advice: When your feet need a break, take a cruise along the beautiful and famous Li River.
T_____(跋涉;徒步穿越)in Northern Thailand
For an adventure in the jungle, consider trekking in northern Thailand. As you trek, you walk in the mountains and pass rivers and waterfalls. At night, you can stay in villages of tribal people and experience their way of life. Trekking tours often include other activities like riding an elephant or floating down a river on a bamboo raft.
Adventure advice: The high elevation makes the mountains colder than the rest of Thailand. Pack warm clothes, especially during the winter.
Scuba diving in Malaysia
Go scuba diving in the clear waters around Sipadan, an island in Malaysia, and discover an underwater paradise. You'll see large sea turtles swimming alongside schools of tropical fish. The colorful coral along the reefs hides tiny fish. The wide variety of tropical life found around Sipadan makes it famous worldwide for diving.
Adventure advice: You can dive at Sipadan, but you can't sleep there. The island is a protected park, but you can stay on one of the nearby islands.
