A car bomb explosion in Iran has killed 11 members of the Revolutionary Guards. The attackers abandoned a vehicle loaded with explosives in front of a bus carrying the guards and detonated the bomb by remote control. The bombing took place in the southeastern city of Zahedan near the border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. A Sunni Muslim group called Jundallah says it carried out the bombing.

Iranian Balochistan has become increasingly insecure in recent months. The Jundallah group has been blamed for several attacks, including one in which 12 people were dragged out of their cars and brutally murdered on a highway last May. Not much is known about Jundallah except that it operates on the Afghan-Pakistani-Iranian border and is thought to have links to the extensive drug smuggling in the area. The group feeds off the resentments of Iranian Sunnis who are minority in Shiite Iran but predominate in Zahedan.
