Unusual Museum

Some small museums display unusual items

When most people think of museums, they think of large buildings filled with precious treasures, like the Louvre or New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. But hundreds of other, smaller museums showcase “treasures” of another variety. They may or may not be very valuable, but they are certainly interesting! Here are a few of the more q_____(古怪的) museums around the world.

The Meguro Parasite Museum, Tokyo, Japan
Check out this museum if you’re looking for something c_____(可怕的,令人毛骨悚然的) to view. There are jars and jars full of parasites taken form animals and humans. You’ll even find a 28-foot-long tapeworm on display. Oddly enough, it has become popular for couples to take pictures next to this worm. How romantic!

The Bata Shoe Museum, Toronto, Canada
Sonja Bata has collected a lot of shoes—over 10,000 pairs! Her museum’s collection ranges from ancient sandals to modern high heels. She also displays shoes worm by celebrities like Elton John and Marilyn Monroe. After visiting, you’ll truly be able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Medieval Crime Museum, Rothenburg, Germany
This intriguing museum focuses on the history of law in Europe and what happened to the lawbreakers. The collection of t_____(拷问,酷刑) devices is especially interesting. The Baker’s Chair, for example, was used to punish bakers for selling loaves that were smaller than they should have been. Some devices, like the finger screws, were used to scare people into telling the truth. After looking at this collection, you’ll think twice before breaking any laws.

The Museum of Bad Art, Dedham, Massachusetts
One night, museum founder Scott Wilson discovered an old painting in a pile of trash. The painting, Lucy in the Field with Flowers, was so bad that Mr. Wilson felt he shoule share it with others. Today, the museum’s collection of bad art has grown to over 250 h_____(可笑的) pieces. The museum displays 20 to 25 paintings at a time. Admission: free.
