【穿越研英】☆冲击翻译，不得不恋☆(第五十六期)

上次节目后，还很高兴地收到ChubbyKoala的短信，建议每期都对上期作业进行总结，
我们针对出现的问题一起讨论，提出整改措施。考虑到时间问题，而且
频繁总结容易让人审美疲劳，就隔一期总结一次吧。

哈哈，那就开始吧。

 首先向各位道个歉，上期节目出现了不少问题，一是把consciousness打错了及给
出的译文中有错字，谢谢lx171262235的指正。二是翻译的第二句句子没有选好，
所以出现了两种译法：1他们尽力去镇压已经波及全国的疯狂的反叛。2他们试图平息起义，
却导致其更加激烈地蔓延到全国。因为popo没有及时交代上下文，这两种都是对的，所以
看到与参考答案不一致的筒子们千万不要沮丧，Come on, keep moving on !

上期翻译得好的同学，一起学习学习吧：

shuiiying的译文很好地处理了句意和句子间的关系，而其中文意思表达也流畅，简洁明了。

1They tried to stamp out the revolt which spread all the more furiously throughout the country.
他们试图镇压叛乱，结果叛乱更为猛烈地全国漫延开了。
2 There are probably no questions we can think up that can’t be answered, sooner or later,
including even the matter of consciouness.
迟早，我们能想到的问题大概没有不能解答的，甚至包括意识问题

最后，上期还有很多筒子把 consciouness翻译成了“ 潜意识”，虽然最后的译文翻译的很好，
不过遗憾啊，也只能得到一把大大的红叉o(∩_∩)o。让我们一起来回顾“潜意识”的英文吧，
subconsciousness或者subconscious都表示它，你记住了么？

 英语和汉语中的定语有很大的不同。汉语中定语只能前置,而英语中定语既可前置也可后置。两者的
不同,不仅表现在结构上,也表现在意义上。英语中的定语从句有时从原因、结果、目的或条件等方面
对中心词加以限定。因此,在对语法结构、上下文逻辑关系深刻理解的前提下,为了更明确地表明这种
逻辑关系,可以将定语从句翻译成相应的状语从句。同时值得注意的是,定语从句与中心词之间常有分割
成分,而该分割成分中与定语从句紧挨着的名词,常常会被误认为定语从句的中心词。因此,遇到这种结构,
一定要根据上下文和常识进行判断。翻译定语从句时可采用提前译、顺序译、分译或转译等多种方法。

请看例句：

分析：to which work…… satisfaction 使定语从句，其中work是从句的主语，关系代词which指（程度）
extent, that引导的定语从句that can make……an empty life修饰the psychological satisfaction（心理满足）。

译文：-----------------（1）-------------------

20 Studies of the Weddell seal in the laboratory have described the physiological
mechanisms that allow the seals to cope with the extreme oxygen deprivation that
occurs during its longest dives ,which can extend 500 meters below the ocean’s
surface and last for over 70 minutes.

分析：主句是Studies……have described……句中有三个定语从句，对于这样的句子可以考虑采用分译法。
其中，that allow the seals……deprivation修饰the physiological mechanisms；that occurs during
its longest dives修饰the extreme oxygen deprivation；其后的非限定性定语从句which can extend
……over 70 minutes修饰its longest dives，Weddell（sea）：威德尔海（南极洲的边缘海）。
