1.Two convicts are locked in a cell. There is an unbarred window high up in the cell. No matter if they stand on the bed or one on top of the other they can't reach the window to escape. They then decide to tunnel out. However, they give up with the tunneling because it will take too long. Finally one of the convicts figures out how to escape from the cell. What is his plan?
2.Sue is traveling by ship from south of the equator to the north.
She has a nice little cabin with a bathroom, but no window.
Sue has no compass nor other instruments. Just the general luggage one brings on board a long cruise. Yet, without leaving her room or talking with anyone, Sue will be able to
tell when the ship has crossed the equator. How? (hint:It has somthing to do with a geographical phenomenon)
