A colossal（巨大的） black hole nestled（安定、安顿） in the center of（在...的中心） a distant（遥远的） galaxy（星系） controls（控制） its own growth（发展） and the growth of surrounding（周围的） stars（恒星） by pumping out（用泵抽出，可以说放射出） energy（能量） at regular（有规律的） intervals（at intervals 不时，相隔一定时间）, a new study says.（一项最新研究表明）

'It looks like a beating heart,'（就像一颗正在跳动的心脏） said study team member（研究小组成员） Mateusz Ruszkowski, an astronomer at the University of Michigan.

Observatory reveal that with every beat, the black hole shoots twin jets of superheated gas, or plasma, into the galaxy.

The plasma jets warm the cool gas around them, creating bubbles of hot gas that swell until they are several thousand light-years across.

As the bubbles form they create a 'Russian doll' effect, in which one bubble is nested inside a larger one, Ruszkowski said.

Because the bubbles grow at a constant rate, the team determined the age of each bubble, revealing that the black hole pumps out energy once every ten million years.
