Story, Emotion and Thought
What do the people usually write about?
I hit upon the question, standing on the platform of the classroom when the students were kept busy doing exercises as the preparation for the forth-coming examination.
They write about their story with a good narration of the characters and the development;
They write about their emotions with a good description of the interaction between the hearts and scenes;
They write about their thought, even theory with a good exposition of the points, revealing the truth and the factual relations between or among different people and matter.
It would be perfect to put three into one with fabulous techniques, and smart design.
I thought as I stepped down the platform.
Fang Wenshan, the lyrics-writer for Jay Chou, is regarded as a success of the type. I recalled an article I had read days ago.
He can make pictures and words interchangeable, with descriptive pictures or picturesque description.
The process perhaps is like this: he sees or visualizes the pictures first, then verbalizes them while the readers or listeners by reading or listening to the lyrics, imagine or restore the pictures---a process of creation and recreation.
“It is a kind of Buddhist pleasure beyond description by changing the pictures into words.” He said.
Simply speaking, he turns abstract thought and smartly-linked concepts into image-filled words or logical essay.
With some movie techniques, he puts them together: scenes, characters, atmosphere, and a smart association of all above, so as to invent his typical “Imagery Lyrics”.
Could I do something of my very own in teaching or writing?
I thought as I walked back and forth among those head-lowered students.
