对待媒体的态度:
The power of journalism is to influence. We should not mix facts with feelings, yet we have to understand that even journalists are humans, and to feel and take sides are simply natural. If readers are influenced by simply reading one article, that explains the power of writing by the journalist, and it says a lot about the readers too. It is up to the readers to find differing viewpoints, and make their own judgements.
绝妙的讽刺——让美国媒体改变立场的最有效方法:
I think if China could cut off the gas to the EU (a la gazprom) then Sarkozy and Merkel would have been praising Beijing for their 'excellent handling of the situation with minimal loss of life'....hell its good to own the pipe!!!
某狗日的历史书里的西藏:
Tibet was never a "province of China" nor has it been continuously a part of China.
Under the Yuan dynasty Tibet was part of the Mongol empire. It was part of it before China was part of it, and was treated preferentially to China in that empire. It is more accurate to say that Tibet was part of Mongolia at this time. When the Mongol dynasty came to an end Tibet and Mongolia both left.
Tibet was not a part of China during the Ming empire. Some Chinese historians claim that it was, but there was no effective governance of any kind: China had no army, no ministers, no officials, no control, direction, or anything else over Tibet at that time, which claimed to be independent, and acted independently.
The Qing empire reclaimed Tibet, but did not treat it as a province. Instead it was administered by the division of the Qing government that dealt with foreign powers. It plainly was part of the Qing empire but it was treated more as a colony than as a province.
Even when the Red Army invaded Tibet it was not claimed to be a province of China. Instead it was claimed to be an autonomous territory with Chinese suzerainity. That is spelled out in the original 17 point agreement.
It's only been essentially since 1959 that there has been any talk of Tibet being a "province" of China.
某大侠大快人心的驳斥:
You really learned a lot from "non-Chinese history book".
I appreciate that you are at least not amongst those who criticize everything while know nothing like so many ignorant media.
As you stated, since there are many versions of history books and obviously each group of people claims theirs is the so-called correct one, one group can not simply say another's is wrong. It's easy to understand, the Chinese people do not believe your version, and you guys do not believe the Chinese version. So, your assertion is as funny as you think the Chinese assertion.
However, you should have decent consciousness and knowledge that there is always a history, no matter how many versions of it, a true history of human community evolution. It is true and exists.
What you stated is partly true, which is also a part of the long, whole evolution. The rightness of China's territory today, is just the same with that of the US, UK etc. Do you still remember the first 13 states of the US? How did they get the west vast territory? If you know UK, you must also heard of some stories between Britain and Ireland.
If we explore more deeply, even before the 13 states of the US, who on earth were the legal host of the beautiful new world, America??? Indians! Why not you write paper for them to claim their earth back? You also should have helped the helpless Mexican. Where were you? Don't tell me you are just strongly and merely interested in Chinese history. God.
This is just an example. Too many like this, you know better than I do, I guess you just...
I just want to tell you that, the history is a process of human evolution, Chinese, Americans, British and so on and so forth no difference. You guys should change your attitude, do not be so insolent and aggressive, do not learn from your fathers or grandfathers who many times united to kill, rape, rob of and steal from the Chinese people in the recent history(You like to mention history), as well as other people around the world.
Please give the Chinese people some time and space to change, to improve. Please do not make use of Taiwan, Tibet issues to benefit.
亚裔加拿大人眼里的中国&西藏关系(以数据和史实为基础,但愿不要有人又说他被CCP “洗脑”):
I am a Chinese Canadian having lived in China for 30 years and Canada 19 years. Here is what I think of ???China's occupation and oppression over Tibet", China's human rights and Beijing Olympic:
Tibet has been an administrative constituent of China for over 700 years, longer than US and Canada???s history combined together. At the beginning of 20th century, when China was weak and invaded by western powers several times, British invaded Tibet and Tibet declared independence from China in 1913. In the first half of 20th centure, China was entangled in civil wars and foreign invasions. Chinse government could not control many parts of China, including Tibet. When communist party won China, PLA entered Tibet in 1951. Just like in America???s history people don???t say the North has occupied the South since the Civil war, China did not ???occupy??? Tibet..
Because Tibet is an autonomous region, Tibet???s theocracy and serfdom was not changed until 1959. The 1959 reform was to abolish the theocracy and serfdom. When upper lamas and serf masters??? uprising was suppressed, many of them fled to India with Daila Lama.
Tibet???s serfdom is even darker than Europe???s middle ages. As Michael Parenti has documented, Tibet ???was a retrograde theocracy of serfdom and poverty, where a favoured few lived high and mighty off the blood, sweat, and tears of the many. It was a long way from Shangri-La.??? . Under the serfdom, rich lamas and lords owned more than 95% of land and properties. Their notorious torture of slaves, including floggings, mutilations, and amputations, was documented by many researchers and historians. The 1959 reform lifted millions serfs out of misary condition. It???s not true to say China has oppressed Tibetan since 1959.
Chinese government made a lot of mistakes, especialy from 1950s to 1970s, but they always apply special preferencial policies towards Tibet because government concerns of ethnic harmony. For example, 1958 Great Leap Forward and 1966-1976 Culture Revolution caused huge disasters in many parts of China, but not impacted Tibet. China???s One Family One Child policy that has applied since 1970???s does not apply to Tibetan too. Tibetan family has 3.8 children in average. Tibetan students can get into college much easier than Han Chinese; having commited same offence, a Tibetan could be punished lighter than a Han Chinese, which many Han Chinese complained as inequality. Chinese government spent huge monies in Tibet, not only in economy, but also in culture, heritage and environmental protections. Temples??? maintenance and monks??? living are supported by government budget. Tibetan people don???t pay income tax and have free medical care, which most Chinese do not have. According to Chinese sources, the Tibetan's average lifespan has increased from 35 in 1950 to 68 in 2000. Infant mortality has dropped from 43% in 1950 to 0.661% in 2000. The population of ethnic Tibetans has increased from 1.19 mil.
藏族人和印第安人命运对比:
Comparison 1. White people occupied American continent and then, the native Indians population has decreased in one incredible speed. Historians believe about 20 million American natives died in the invasion and occupation of the white. But, in Tibet, after 1951, after China ???occupied??? Tibet, the Tibetan population has been increasing all the time.
Comparison 2 Tibetan were freed from the cruel theocracy and serfdom system in Dalai Lama???s times and now enjoy good lives. Their living standard is above the average level for all Chinese. How about Native American? Above or below the average living standard of American people ?
Comparison 3. In Tibet, the local main language is Tibetan. In Tibetan Schools, Tibetan and Han languages are both taught. Now Tibetan language is still widely and intensively used in Tibet. But in America, many native Indians languages are already extinct or used among so small ethnic groups that the languages became the safest military code used by American troops in the Second world War. What happens to the Indian???s languages and culture? Pelosi and Richard Gere, please tell me , please. So strange to me.
Comparison 4. In America, Native Indians were herded into the reservations and are almost still confined inside. But in Tibet, Tibetan Chinese live in their nice houses and there are no reservations at all
Comparison 5 Tibet is now one of the 5 autonomous regions in China which means the top governor and most government officials must be Tibetan. This is regulated and required by China law. But, in America, I cannot find out if there has been an Indian governor in one American state although that is their land. In China there are 34 provincial level governments and one governor is always Tibetan. In America, there are 50 states and there is even not one Indian governor.
In American history, especially in the West movement, Native Indian got hunted by the white and even American army. One American even said this, all the good Indians are the dead ones. But In Tibet, China, we say we 56 ethnic groups are brothers and sisters, we are like a big family and should have mutual respect and help and this is what we have done in China. Sounds strange to me.
台湾人眼里的西藏&大陆关系:
I came from Taiwan and lived in Beijing for 3 years. The point of view of this article seems a little bit "too liberal" for me. It is for sure that people around the world including those western global companies sponsoring the Beijing Olympics hope for the success of the game. However, we DO have many problems in China and Tibet, and you can not simply justify whatever the Chinese Communist did by proving western brutalty of the past colonial rule and the illegitimacy of recent Iraq war. I mean you can't just declare yourself being right by pointing out others' mistakes.
Another thing worries me a lot is the unreasonable Han-natinality racism agitated by Chinese government deliberately. The government tries hard to let their people believe that the central government continuously owned the sovereignty over Tibet for 700 years. However, You can easily know about what was really going on by reading the "Ming-Shih"-the official history of Ming dynasty. Young People living in Beijing shout out loudly saying that the foriegners know nothing about Chinese history. However, I don't think most Chinese people know their own past more than the western people. Read the classical history book before brainwashed by the communist propoganda.
The same problem exisits between Taiwan and Mailand China. You can't keep telling lies by describing the island as "the holy and glorious territory for thousands of years" only because you want to deny the existance of Republic of China government chased away from mailand some 50 years before. History tells us the very beginning of Han-National mass-migrants from mailand was merely 400 yeras ago.
I am far from a Taiwan-independ supporter, but I am also strongly agaist the so-called "Unification of Glorious Home Land" declared by the Communist party. Believe me, If you grew up in Taiwan, you will never want to get together with such a liar who responsible for the Cultural Revolution. I think the new President Mr. Ma whom I vote for is also not a bind reunificater.
