(一)分开是动词短语，但合成却是名词

1.I'd　like　to　check　out　these　four　books.
我想借这四本书。
I'll　be　installing　scanners　at　each　checkout　stand.
我想在每个付款出口安装扫描器。

2.Have　our　soldiers　broken　through　the enemy's　defenses﹖
　我们的战士冲垮敌人的防线了吗？
Scientists　have　made　a　breakthrough　in　their　treatment　of　that　disease.
　在治疗那种疾病方面科学家已有了突破。

3.He　dropped　out　of　college.
　他大学中途辍学。
Four　college　dropouts　formed　the　Wander　Software　Company　last　fall.
　四个没读完大学的人去年秋天成立了奇妙软件公司。

4.It's　already　too　late　to　draw　back.
　现在要退出已经太迟了。
There　are　some　drawbacks　to　unions　but　they　have　done　a　lot　of　good　for　blue-collar　workers.

5.The　thief　was　handed　over　to　the　police.
已将小偷交给警察处理。

6.Hand　out　the　pencils.
　把铅笔分发给大家。
Please　read　the　handout　carefully.

7.This　house　is　laid　out　sensibly.
　这间房子的设计颇具巧思。
A　store's　layout　helps　influence　what　and　how　much　people　buy.
　一个商店的设置对于人们买什么，买多少能施以影响。

8.Now　the　patient　is　able　to　look　out　for himself.
　这病人现在能自己照料自己了。
Four　days　after　setting　out　while　the　Titanic　was　sailing　across　the　icy　waters　of　the　North　Atlantic　a　huge　iceberg　was　suddenly　spotted　by　a　lookout.

9.She　took　over　30　minutes　to　make　herself　up.
