"double Dutch", a game of jump rope in which players jump over two ropes swung in a crisscross fashion.
“Double Dutch”
This article is so full of jargon. It's just double Dutch to me.(这文章术语满篇,对我犹如天书。)

China's real estate prices maintained their robust growth in October. The sales prices of high-end and ordinary residential buildings saw year-on-year rises of 7.7 per cent and 6.4 per cent, up 0.7 and 0.1 percentage points compared to last month.
相应的,“同期增长”则为“year-on-year rise”或“year-on-year growth”。

1. Thank you for your offer.
I appreciate your consideration. / I am honored that you have selected me.
2. Hmm...
3. Based on my current salary...
I had something a little higher in mind. / I was expecting something within the 5 to 7,000 range.
4. Can I let you know my final decision on Monday?
I'm very interested in your company, but will you please give me some time to make a more informed decision?
5. I'll take it!
I'd like to formally accept your offer. After much consideration, I'm afraid I won't be able to accept your offer.

1. This shirt is very stylish and not very expensive.
It's looks good. / It's very stylish. / It's very becoming (on) you.
2. I don't like too much cleavage.
I don't like too much cleavage. My mom will kill me if she sees too much cleavage.(如果让我妈妈看到我露太多,她会杀了我的。)
3. I don't think this one will fit me.
It's not my size. It won't fit me. Hey, check this out! I think you should buy it.(看看这件衣服,我想你该买下它。)你说:It looks good but it's not my size. Maybe it will fit you.(看起来是不错,但我想这不是我的尺码,或许你能穿得上。) It won't fit me.
I have a pair of pants that need altering. Can you tell me where I should go?
4. Your clothes don't match.
Clothes don't match. This red top and your pants don't match. 或是 This red top doesn't match your pants.

The girl soon laid the table for dinner.
She laid the table for five.
Tea was laid.
还要注意,lay有些习惯用法不宜译作“放”,如:lay an ambush 设埋伏,lay a mine 埋地雷,lay a coat of paint 涂/刷一层漆,lay a ghost 驱鬼,lay a question(正式)提出/提交问题,lay a rumor 辟谣,lay the blame on somebody 责备某人,lay one's pen to the paper 落笔(写),lay one's life 以性命打赌(注意:lay down one's life是“捐躯/牺牲”)。

The Democrats won 51-49 in the Senate and a majority of at least 30 seats in the House of Representatives, crippling President George W. Bush and making him a lame duck as he enters his last two years in his second term.
“Lame duck”
The governor of our state ended up as a lame duck when he lost the election. He still has six weeks left in office but there's nothing to do except to pack up his papers.

Rumors are circulating that Kevin Federline is holding Britney Spears to ransom over their divorce by threatening to sell a video tape of them having sex.
The News Of The World is reporting that Federline has already been offered millions for the four-hour long sex-tape, supposedly filmed weeks into their relationship.
A source told the News of the World: "This vid is dynamite and Kev knows it. He has told Britney she should comply with his demands otherwise the whole world will see her having sex, which will be devastating.
"At the time the two of them were in the honeymoon stages of the relationship and couldn't keep their hands off each other. They did nothing all day but have sex - and play the odd game of chess."
If the sex tapes rumors are true, they will only harshen a rough divorce case.
A day after Britney Spears filed divorce papers, Kevin Federline counter-filed court papers seeking sole custody of the couple's two children. The former backup dancer and aspiring rapper is also seeking spousal support .
"Kevin is prepared to go the distance in order to do what he feels is necessary to protect and safeguard the children and will not be intimidated or dissuaded from pursuit of those goals," said Michael Sands, spokesman for Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan.
Citing "irreconcilable differences," Spears filed for divorce Tuesday.
Spears, 24, married Federline, 28, in 2004. They have a 1-year-old son, Sean Preston, and an infant son, Jayden James, who was born Sept. 12.
Spears married Federline eight months after ending a 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to her childhood friend, Jason Alexander. Her second marriage provided endless fodder for tabloids, which speculated frequently that the union was in trouble.
Vocabulary:

An increase in the number of delegates to the Party congress next year will help improve the representation of grass-roots workers, an official said Sunday.
"Leaders and cadres generally should not constitute more than 70 per cent of the delegates, while those from the grass-roots level should not be less than 30 per cent."
The oligarchic regime seems to be losing contact with the grass roots.(那个寡头政权看来正在渐渐脱离民众。)
