Stay true to your values

What’s important to you? Helping others? Making money? Using your talents? Make sure you know what your personal values are. Then let them guide your decision making.

Do your homework

Take the time to research all your options. Think about the positive and negative consequences of each one. List the pros and cons of each option. Sometimes our emotions, worries and fears can cloud our judgment. But seeing the pros and cons on paper can put things in perspective. Sometimes that alone is enough to help us decide!

Consider your emotions

Most of us tend to make decisions based on either our head or our heart. But it’s important to learn how to balance the two. The previous step is the logical approach. Now explore your feelings. Write down what you’re feeling about each of your options. Then examine what’s behind those feelings. Are they based on reality or on vague worries and unrealistic hopes?

Once you’ve done all these steps, make the best decision you can. Then relax, and make the most of the direction you’ve chosen.
