Asking for information about an item

Clare: There’s no label on this jacket. What brand is it?

Salesperson: It’s an Oscar Peebles.

Marisa: That’s a great brand!

Salesperson: And it’s a great price, too. You’ll rarely find Oscar Peebles at 50 percent off.

Clare: But if it’s an Oscar Peebles, how come it doesn’t have the OP label?

Salesperson: Well, it’s actually a factory second. OP never puts its label on seconds.

Clare: Is there something wrong with it?

Salesperson: Well, there is a tiny hole inside the pocket. See?

Clare: Does it still come with a guarantee, then?

Salesperson: No, sorry.

Clare: Hmm. OK, thanks.

(The salesperson leaves.)

Marisa: Clare, half price on an Oscar Peebles is a great deal! If you don’t buy it, I will!

Clare: It is a good buy, isn’t it?

Making a purchase

Clare finds a salesperson at the cash register.

Clare: OK, I’ve decided to take this jacket.

Salesperson: Good decision! It really looks nice, and the price is right.

Clare: It’s definitely a good price. What’s your return policy?

Salesperson: You can bring it back within 12 days for exchange. Keep your receipt, though. You’ll need it in order to return the jacket.

Clare: What about a refund?

Salesperson: Sorry. We cannot give refunds on clearance items.

Clare: I guess that’s OK. I don’t plan on returning it.

Salesperson: So, that will be $55, including tax.

Clare: Do you take personal checks?

Salesperson: We used to, but not anymore. We were just having too many problems with them. Sorry.

Clare: That’s OK. I’ll use my credit card, if that’s all right.

Salesperson: Certainly.
