abuse  v.滥用;辱骂 (insult)
       1.to make bad use of sth, or to use so much of sth that it harms your health: to abuse alcohol / drugs; He systematically abused his body with heroin and cocaine.
       2.to use power or knowledge unfairly or wrongly: She abused her position as principal by giving jobs to her friends.
       3.to treat a person or an animal in a cruel or violent way, especially sexually: All the children had been physically and emotionally abused.  He had abused his own daughter (= had sex with her).  The boy had been sexually abused.
       4.to make rude or offensive remarks to or about sb: The referee had been threatened and abused.

accelerate  v.加速 [反]decelerate ;促进
            1.to happen or to make sth happen faster or earlier than expected: Inflation continues to accelerate.  Exposure to the sun can accelerate the aging process.
            2.(of a vehicle or person) to start to go faster: The runners accelerated smoothly around the bend.  The car accelerated to overtake me.
accentuate  v.重读;强调   [æk'sentʃueit]
            to emphasize sth or make it more noticeable: Her short hair accentuated her huge eyes.  The fundamental patterns of inequality have remained and have been accentuated by the war.
access    n.通路;途径   ['ækses]
          1.~ (to sth) a way of entering or reaching a place: The only access to the farmhouse is across the fields.  Disabled visitors are welcome;there is good wheelchair access to most facilities.  The police gained access through a broken window.  There is easy access by road.
          2.~ (to sth) the opportunity or right to use sth or to see sb/sth: Students must have access to good resources.  You need a password to get access to the computer system.  Journalists were denied access to the President.  Many divorced fathers only have access to their children at weekends.(visitation)
accessible adj.易达到的;易受影响的 ~ (to sb)  [反]inaccessible
            1.that can be reached, entered, used, seen, etc.: The remote desert area is accessible only by helicopter.  These documents are not accessible to the public.
            2.easy to understand: Her poetry is always very accessible.
            3.(of a person) easy to talk to and get to know
accessory   adj.附属的,次要的
            (technical) not the most important when compared to others
acclaim     v.欢呼,称赞 ~ sb/sth (as sth)
            to praise or welcome sb/sth publicly: a highly / widely acclaimed performance  The work was acclaimed as a masterpiece.
acclimate   v.使服水土;使适应 = acclimatize  ~ (yourself) (to sth)
            to get used to a new place, situation or climate: Competitors should arrive two weeks earlier to get acclimated to the sweltering heat.  It takes many months to acclimatize to life in the tropics.  She was fine once she had acclimatized herself to the cold.
accolade    n.推崇;赞扬
            (formal) praise or an award for an achievement that people admire
accommodate v.提供食宿;能容纳;考虑到;使适应
            1.to provide sb with a room or place to sleep,live or sit: The hotel can accommodate up to 500 guests.  The aircraft is capable of accommodating 28 passengers.
            2.to provide enough space for sb/sth: Over 70 minutes of music can be accommodated on one CD.  The old town hall now accommodates a Folk Museum.
            3.(formal) to consider sth,such as sb’s opinion or a fact,and be influenced by it when you are deciding what to do or explaining sth: Our proposal tries to accommodate the special needs of minority groups.  She modified her views so as to accommodate the objections of American feminists.
            4.~ sb (with sth) (formal) to help sb by doing what they want = oblige: I have accommodated the press a great deal,giving numerous interviews.  I'm sure the bank will be able to accommodate you.
            5.~ to sth | ~ sth / yourself to sth (formal) to change your behaviour so that you can deal with a new situation better: I needed to accommodate to the new schedule.
accommodating adj.乐于助人的 = obliging
              willing to help and do things for other people: They are very accommodating to foreign visitors.
accompany   v.伴随,陪伴;伴奏
            1.(formal) to travel or go somewhere with sb: His wife accompanied him on the trip.  I must ask you to accompany me to the police station.  Warships will accompany the convoy.
            2.to happen or appear with sth else: strong winds accompanied by heavy rain  Each pack contains a book and accompanying CD.  Shouts of protest accompanied this announcement.  The text is accompanied by a series of stunning photographs.
            3.~ sb (at/on sth) to play a musical instrument,especially a piano,while sb else sings or plays the main tune: The singer was accompanied on the piano by her sister.
accomplice  n.同谋者,帮凶
              a person who helps another to commit a crime or to do sth wrong
accomplish  v.完成,做成功 = achieve
              to succeed in doing or completing sth: The first part of the plan has been safely accomplished.  I don’t feel I’ve accomplished very much today.
accomplished adj.完成了的;有技巧的,有造诣的
                 very good at a particular thing;having a lot of skills: an accomplished artist/actor/chef; She was an elegant and accomplished woman.
