Mr. Rexroad said the cause of the sudden loss of bees is not clear. The number of honey bees alreadyhas(had) fallen before the colony collapse disorder began. Experts say the _varroa_mite_ is at least partly responsible for the earlier decrease in honey bees. The _mite_ is a tiny creature that fits(feeds) on honey bees. It may play a part in colony collapse disorder by carrying bee _viruses_. Or the problem may be caused by other diseases and weather conditions.

A group of scientists is examining bees from more than one hundred colonies across the country. The researchers also are studying the _pollen_ , honey, and _wax_ that the bees produce. They are working with the Agriculture Department’s Agricultural Research Service. Diana Cox-Foster of _Pennsylvania_ State University is a part of the scientific group. Ms. CF says the nation needs honey bees  that can defend themselves better against diseases and insects. The recent mapping of most of the honey bees’ jences(genes) offers hope of a stronger honey bee some day.

What has happened to America’s honey bees? Last fall, beekeepers from states with warm climates begin (began) to report a sudden loose (loss) of honey bees. Looses (Losses) was (were) reported in 24 states and into Canada. Today, some beekeepers say 30% to 90% of their honey bees are gone. Food prices could go up as a result and some beekeeping businesses have failed.

Many kinds of plants, trees and grasses need bees to _pollinate them_. Bees gather ­­_nectar_ from flowers during this process. The liquid gives them food and material to make honey. As the bees land on flowers, their bodies pick up and drop off fine particles of _pollen_. Most flowering plants need _pollination_ to reproduce.

Unlike previous years, there were no clashes reported between followers of different Christian sects. Tobias Raschke, from Munich, who attended Easter Services at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, said he was impressed by how all the different sects and nationalities mixed together.

"We got up at three o’clock in the morning and had a German Easter liturgy and now we have come to the Church (of the Holy Sepulcher) to see what is happening here because it is a very crazy place because somehow（somehow because）now they have an Armenian service and then after one hour they have a Catholic service. It is fascinating to see the key is in the hands of a Moslem and the Israeli police making sure that nothinghappens （is happening）here, which I think it is great ,Israel is doing （it）well, from different faiths and denominations ，（people can come）and pray here and everything is safe."

With an easing of security fears this year, the convergence of the Western and Orthodox Christian calendars and weeklong Jewish Passover observances occurring at the same time, Jerusalem hotels reported full occupancy rates for the first time in years.

The changes measured by an index can be represented with a single percentage.The index may start at a base period of time with a value of one hundred.
