David：What do you think about tradition and modernization in China? 说说你对中国传统和现代化的看法。
You：我认为随着中国逐步地走向现代化，它正在摒弃某些传统和价值观，取而代之的是西方一些传统和价值观。
David：Usually modernization implies the adoption of advanced science and modern technology as well as developing own traditions. 通常现代化意味着在发展自己的传统文化的基础上学习先进的科学技术。
You：这是中国学术界很热门的话题。
David：As China opens to modern world markets, western products and ideas will be highly marketed to her consumers. Do you think that Chinese traditions and the Chinese way of living can be applied in this modern era or will they be endangered by it? 当中国向世界市场敞开大门的时候，中国消费者将接受很多西方的产品和观念。你觉得中国的传统和生活方式能够适应当前的时代发展么？这会对它们有什么影响吗？
You：当然能适应。但是有些不符合社会发展的传统观念则不可避免会发生转变。
David：Can you give an example? 你能举个例子吗？
You：比如，人们在衣着观念就在不断地发生改变。过去，人们的衣着款式单一，而随着社会的发展，人们更加讲究个人的穿着风格，因此人们的服饰更加多样化。

常见错误：It is a very popular idea in Chinese academic field.
popular idea：“theory”指的是学术领域中的“理论，学说”，而“idea”只是指的一般的“想法，观点”，不如theory的份量重，根据上下文，这里应该用theory。
参考答案：This is a popular theory among Chinese academia.

常见错误：Of course, most Chinese traditions are very good in modern society. As for the others, I think some which is not so good for the social development are gradually changed.
not so good：这里用“impede”来表达贬义，更加具体明确。英语学习者应尽量避免使用“good”“bad”这类词，因为它们过于笼统。而选用一些描述性的词汇，既能展现自身的语言魅力，又能使句意更加明确。
参考答案：It is convincing that most Chinese traditions can be applied in modern society. However,it is inevitable that those which impede social development have been gradually changing.

常见错误：Clothes habit is changing a lot. In tradition, people dressed monotonously while with the development of society people think very high about personal style and so people’s clothes are quite colorful.
In tradition：“in tradition”是不正确的，应当改为traditionally。In+名词不等于该名词的副词形式，其他类似常用的副词还有“presently”、“currently”和“recently”。同样，把“in”分别与“present”、“current”、“recent”搭配使用也是不正确的。
think very high：“something be held in high regard”意为“很重视某人某事”或“think very highly of … something”。
参考答案：Fashion taste are changing. Traditionally, people dressed monotonously. But today, with the development of society, personal style has been held in high regard, and therefore, people are dressed in different styles.
