猜题一：the letter of condolence
Dear friends,
In last month's newspaper,I read about the resent events involved in the earthquake striking in Wenchuan,and I expend my deepest condolence to you.
It broke my heart to see all pictures of those whose homes have been destroyed in the Richter Scale 8.0 earthquake.I can't believe my eyes when I see a little girl crying on the roof of her house asking for help.I'm really worried about you and your family,and all your friends there.I'm crossing my fingers for you now in hopes that you are safe and sound.
I can imagine how difficult this time must be for you,and I want to expend to you my unwavering support.Our goverment and many non-governmental organizations are initiating various campaigns to urge people to donate money and neccessary things to send to victim areas.I donated all my allowance that I have been saving for years.
I feel extremely sorry for this tragedy,and I will be looking forward to hearing from you.Please pass my concern on to your parents.

学习心得：
第一组：
quiet和tranquil区别是前者无噪音，可以有声音；后者是一点声音都没有，“宁静”。
peaceful个人认为是心的平静，更深层次的安静，所以常解释为“和平”（真正意义上的心的平静）。
placid和still区别是前者一点运动都没有；后者只要保持原来的运动，没有特别变动，所以有“还”的意思。
pacific如果peaceful是针对个人来说，那么pacific范围就广一些，整个大环境。
sedate是借助药物得以安静，所以有“镇静”的意思，其名词：sedative镇静剂。
第二组：就目前水平还无法区分，还需要多多学习啊～
第三组：等我学习完再讨论～
第四组：beset非主观因素的包围；surround最常用，一般情况都可运用，没特别讲究；besiege和siege都是用于战争中，围困；encircle范围广，四面八方都被包围，完全是空间上的，就像一个球体；blockade和close off一样都是围困，至于与besiege和siege有何区别，暂不知，请教个位高手们～
第五组：safeguade和guade意思一样，但与protect用法上有点差别，前两者可以是vi或vt，而后者只能是vt？？？不知道是不是这样，有错请纠正；shied主要是“遮蔽”的意思，比如遮住眼睛，脸等。
