This is AP News Minute.
I. The death toll has now risen to nearly 12,000 following Monday’s earthquake in China. The 7.9 magnitude quake toppled buildings in the central part of the country. Officials fear the death toll will go higher. Rain is hampering relief efforts.
II. A second shipment of aid from the US has reached Myanmar. However the UN says only a tiny portion of the international aid flowing into the country is getting to cyclone survivors. The UN says Myanmar’s military junta is keeping the best aid for itself.
III. Dozens of homes have been damaged by brush fires in Florida and hundreds of people have been evacuated. The fire has shut down several miles of busy interstate. The governor has declared a state of emergency allowing Florida to use federal funds and bring local emergency workers under state control.
IV. It’s primary day in West Virginia as democrats head to the voting booth to cast their ballots. Hillary Clinton is expected to easily defeat Barack Obama. Clinton will be in West Virginia today while Obama will be campaigning in Missouri, an expected battleground state in Nov.
