This is AP News Minute.
I. Vice President Dick Cheney made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan. He and President Hamid Karzai talked about how the country can best deal with rising threats from al-Qaida and the Taliban. Last year was the most violent in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion to overthrow the Taliban.
II. Flooding in parts of Midwest hit a record or near record levels. Three people are missing and at least 13 dead in the region. Flood watchers are posted from Texas to Pennsylvania as heavy rain continues.
III. Kory McFarren is expected in court next month when he will face charges of mistreating his girlfriend. Pam Babcock is being treated for nerve damage after being removed from a toilet seat where she was stuck. McFarren says Babcock was afraid to leave the bathroom.
IV. Thousands of Mexican Catholics are flocking to a village where a small statue of the Virgin Mary is said to be crying. The 20-inch-tall statue supposedly started crying when it was returned to a church in the village after being taken to a nearby town.
