It is Saturday today. We got up at 5 o’clock in the morning in order to catch the 7 o’clock bus from Flushing to the Chinatown in Manhattan where we would get on another bus to Niagara Falls. We had a big breakfast at 6 o’clock and set off at 6:30. 15 minutes later we were at the Main Street of Flushing. The 7 o’clock bus did not start on time actually because some tourists were late. About a quarter past 7, the bus pulled out of the bus station and we were on the way to the Chinatown in Manhattan. It rained at night, so the road was wet. The bus moved on not very fast; we could have a good view of New York in the morning. New York is beautiful in fall; it appears sleepy and much quieter at this time of the day when compared with Shanghai.
At about 8, the bus stopped in front of an old building on a small street. We got off the bus and went to the headquarters of the travel agency, waiting for further announcement. At about 8:30, we finally got on the right bus to Niagara Falls. The driver and the tourist guide are all Chinese (maybe Chinese Americans). What impressed me most was the tourist guide’s figure. She has a pretty face but unbelievably fat body. She is much of a linguist who can speak Shanghai dialect, Cantonese, Mandarin, and English an a little Japanese. I felt sorry for her because such a pretty girl had been ruined by American fast food. She is really a meat ball. I thnk she rolls faster than she walks. Nevertheless, she seems friendly to us, maybe we are all Chinese.
At a quarter to nine, we were on the way to Thousand Island. We passed through Holland tunnel and entered into the state of New Jersey. The bus driver picked up another 7 tourists at a gas station at a big shopping mall in New Jersey. At this time the bus was totally full with 50 passengers.
The bus run at 80 miles per hour on the expressway and stopped every 3 hours for tourists to have rest or meals. Ours is a two-day and one-night trip to Thousand Island and Niagara Falls. The first day we visited Thousand Island. The bus passed through New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York State. At about 4, we arrived at a harbour on the American-Canadian border. From there we took a boat tour around the beautiful islands in Lake Ontario. There are many beautiful villas on these many islands purchased by American millionaires or billionaires. It is called Thousand Island because there are about 1800 islands in Lake Ontario. Some of them belong to Canada and some belong to the United States of America. The air is so fresh, the sky is so blue and the water is so clean that this scenic spot attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. Houses of all kinds of styles are built on the islands and beautiful islands are dotted in Lake Ontario like shining stars in the night sky. The scenery was so beautiful that you could not help taking as many pictures as you could. The islands and the summer houses are so expensive that only the American millionaires and billionaires can afford.
One-hour boat tour in “Island Duchess” (the boat’s name) was too short for us to enjoy the fantastic scenery there; we could hardly tear ourselves away from it when the tour finished. I came to understand why the United States of America is called "Meiguo" in Chinese.
A two-and-half-hour journey brought us to a Chinese buffet for dinner and the bus flew on the expressway for another hour and we stopped at our hotel Holiday Inn. That is end of the 6th day.
