It is Sunday today. We visited Niagara Falls.
The tourist guide ( a very obese American Chinese woman) announced the day before that all the tourists should get up at 6:30 in case that there should be too many tourists there. I got up at 6:00 and went down to the lobby at 6:20 so that I could have some time for a cup of coffee. Luckily, all the tourists got up on time so that we could set off at 6:30. It was a cold september morning, the bus was like an icebox, so I had to put on my thick jacket. Some people even put on winter clothes. It was getting warmer and warmer as the bus drove on for the driver had turned on the air conditioner. It was an hour’s ride from our hotel to the Niagara Falls. When we arrived, there were already many early birds.
Far way we could hear the thunderous sound and see the mist arising from the falls. It is said that "Niagara" in Indian means the sound of thunder. The sound of the falls is just like the sound of thunders. That’s how the falls are named. There are three big falls: The biggest and most spectacular one is called Horseshoe Falls,it is named so because the shape of the falls is like a horseshoe. The crestline of this falls is 2500 feet, that is 762m; The height is 167ft, that is 51m. In the summer, the daytime flow is 675,000 gal/sec., you can imagine how splendid it is! The other two are called American falls because they are on the American side. The turbulent water from Niagara River falls down, making thunderous sound; the water splashes down on the rocks and the mist rises from the falls. When the sun is shining, a rainbow will appear, just like a bridge which connects the United States and Canada(In fact, not far away from the falls, there is a so-called rainbow bridge which connects U.S.A. and Cannada). On the other side of the river is the city of Toronto Canada, You can see Toronto TV tower, a world famous architecture. Some people say that from the Canadian side you can enjoy a better view of the Niagara Falls.
I walked slowly towards the falls but held my steps immediately. On the one hand, the thunderous sound frightened me. On the other hand, the groud was wet becasue of the mist. I had to take shelter from the chilly rain under my umbrella, otherwise I would get soaked in a few seconds.
In order to have a close look of the falls, the tourists have to take a boat tour down the River. All the tourists have to wear raincoats. From the boat down the river, we seemed to have seen the white curtains drop down from the sky in front of us. The Niagara Falls are so magnificent that it is beyond my words to describe them. many fo the tourists made videos. I didn't take pictures because I didn't know whether my camera was water-proof or not. Anyway, Visiting the Niagara Falls is worthwhile if you have such an opportunity.
The boat tour was not long, but it took hours for us to line up waiting for taking the boat tour. On the way back to New York, we dropped in Coning Glass Museum where they show the tourists how glass wares are made. You can also buy some there but they are very expensive.
Not until 11 o'clock did we get to our studio. This is how we spend our first week in New York.
