I have chosen to answer the question of “Who is my favorite musician and why?” The answer to this is simple. Dave Grohl of Nirvana and the Foo Fighters is my favorite musician of all time. I chose this question because I myself am a musician and I knew I would enjoy and take pride in writing a paper about someone I idolize. I also chose to write about who I will be voting for in November because it is a great interest of mine and I would like to enlighten not only my classmates but my peers across the world of my political views.
Starting off with the first question; To me, Dave Grohl is a musical genius and the best musician to ever walk the face of the earth. I know this is a bold assumption but I think of him this way because he does it all. He writes music, plays drums, guitar, piano, bass and even sings. Dave started his career with a band called “Freak Baby” in 1986 in which he played guitar and sang. During this time, he felt the drummer in this band was sub par, so he taught himself how to play the drums, and took over for their drummer. However, he did not particularly become noticed until he started playing with a Seattle based band named “Nirvana”. With their first hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in 1991, Grohl rose to stardom.
Unfortunately, just three years later, at the peak of their success, Nirvana, the biggest band in the world at the time, disbanded due to the untimely death of lead singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain. Just a couple of months after Cobain’s death, he started the “Foo Fighters”. On their first album he played all of the instruments and then gathered a couple of friends together to play shows with him. To this day, the Foo Fighters are a multi-platinum selling artist and have no intentions of slowing down.
The reason I said everything I have said so far is because I would like you to understand the point I am trying to make which is why I idolize Dave so much. It is because after Nirvana, disbanded, he worked tirelessly to continue playing the music he loved and to get back “out there” to the public. He played all of the instruments and wrote all of the songs because he could not find people right away and he did not want to slow down. That is what I did for two and a half years of my life and I can confidently say the only reason I play music is because of Dave Grohl. Music is my biggest passion and without him, music would most likely not be anywhere near exciting for me as it is.
As for the question of who I will be voting for this November, I have decided in the past week that it will be John McCain. For months, I had supported Barack Obama because he seemed like an excellent leader. But then I realized he might just be all talk because he has very little experience with the topics he touches on and I would rather have a president who I know for a fact will be trustworthy and great. Thus, I found out something about McCain that showed me his true colors and values.
Back when he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he was freed relatively quickly from when he was captured however, he stated that he would not leave until everyone else had been freed. So, he stayed a prisoner of was for an additional five years after that. That just shows me the kind of man he is and how dedicated he is to the United States of America and that is why he has my vote. I want someone who I know will be dedicated and true. He is the only candidate who has truly proven that to me.
I am very glad that I was asked two questions that I am very passionate about because I feel it helped give me the best answer possible. I also hope that this essay surpassed your expectations and answered all of your questions on the topic.
