"Precious Brand of Local Specialty with a name 'seaweed-green' highly valued and preserved in its unique way of bringing to your table, the green-delight, freshingly tender, natural crispy, and smooth taste; named  as Imperial-food : 'Veggie-Jellyfish" date back to xxxx ( I don't know, pls check) of Qing Dynasty

This is my trying to be offered for your consideration, hope you may accept, and other may also agree:

It is a very interesting posting, thanks!!
Good luck in business!

Shoppers in marketplaces look at the descriptions on the packing in great care, so words we choose to use on the packing counts for your profit back.

This posting give us a thought that when translate this type of 'products' introduction or advertising, its wise to omit some of too 'local' words which is meaningless for those foreign market; so 蜗阳 ,“ 贡菜 ” is purposely omitted for not to bring to much local information that confusing the buyers, unless this product is aimed to export to the China Town only.

Another interesting part is: as here, we give only 'Veggie-Jellyfish' since this is actually vegetable not fish, its Chinese words it self are not accurate.

When come to the language on packing for exporting goods, we need to be very careful, if we really seriously want to bring those domestic goods into international market; if the business is bigger enough;

Some businesses pay very higher price for the language used on the packing, which lead to business success.

Most resourceful translations could be found from those veterans in Food-Products Im/Ex Company.

You re welcome, Paris1009,

Accutually, there are something more than language that i am interested. your post make me think something else. i had one post regarding to the food and cooking things;

When free ,my thinking goes back to it. If interested please visit:

杂感:'Sunny side up ? or Over easy? 早餐,牛排及一点儿东西d文化差异

http://blog.hjenglish.com/lakeshorejohn/archive/2006/11/07/504396.html[/color]

By the way, i am quite curious, for '我们的一道思考题,我想汲取大家的意见'what is the question designed for? in business translation or something something else?

Please note: i had linked this post to my blog , what ever intereesting ideas discussesed here goes same time to it. since as some one else mentioned, cultural things are accutually seen in details in our every day life.

when we ask what we have now at our table, or what we could have let's say thousand years ago?"freshness' as an example? tells us more about ourselves' hisotry or even technology.

Yet, another thing is words like:' 驰名中外,声震古今' is realy hard to put and omited to be more close to what we read in packing Enlgish in supermarket overseas.

驰名中外,声震古今' just simply put: 'precious' or highly named, if we use:enjoy international reputation' is obviously not suitable. we Chinese won't argue, but those new to it realy confuse, and puzzled in looking at it?

Thank you for posting again, this is realy a good case in language, tranlation, even business and marketing!!

Hi. 一语湖边 :

how 's going? Thanks for your frequent visiting and very encouraging comments you left each time. I'm sorry to write something a bit late, 'cause I was quite busy this week , plus jet lag still bugs me at night. Almost everyday I wake up at 2-3 o'clock and couldn't fall in sleep again. Therefore I write my blog in the mid-night when I have nothing else to do.

You seem to be quite familiar with Japanese food. Actually Sa-ke , Nipon-wine and Sushi are always on my favourite list. I'm not sure if you heard about Muzi Matcha, which is the Japanese tea. I like drinking it very much.

Muzi Matche is the greatest of green tea, or you could say, it's the greenest of green teas. Also Muzi Matche is something else, which combines the beautiful anf flavourful drink with the culture of Zen buddhist. Therefore, this kind of tea shares its heritage with exclusive tea served in buddist temples and tea schools throughout Japan.

Luckily enough, two young university students , Brian takeda and Mars koo , who was studying in queen’s school of business , were challenged by their professor to come up with a business plan for their 4th year thesis. In 2002, they set up its first store in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. Later on , their store branches spreaded to all Norh American cities.

The reason I knew them is I 'm very familiar with design industry. These two young fellows even came up with a Zen inspired contemporary interior design that won the 2004 " decade of design " Award. ( International Interior Design Association)

Thanks again, my friend. Enjoy green tea!
