以前啊如果要扩增DNA，就得繁殖很多很多的那小小的细胞（细胞带有目的DNA,属于体内扩增)。
后来有个叫Kary Mullis博士的家伙跑出来说，你其实可以在体外很简单的达到目的。
你只要把你的模板DNA（就是带有目的DNA的DNA)跟缓冲液混匀了，当然也要加一些引物，核苷和聚合酶。
然后，变性（94度，让DNA双链变性成单链），退火（让引物可以跟匹配的DNA序列结合，温度在五六十度左右），延伸（72度，聚合酶的工作温度，目的DNA片断被复制），你会发现加加热降降温也会有奇妙的效果。
当你想检测突变时，来做PCR吧；
当你想重组基因时，来做PCR吧；
当你要亲子鉴定时，来做PCR吧；
当你要解决案件时，来做PCR吧。
PCR = Polymerase Chain Reaction = 聚合酶链式反应
