The increase of the unemployment rate makes more and more college students begin to ponder. How can we be more competitive in the future job market? Many students are afraid that they will not be able to fit in this competitive society after graduation. And therefore, some of them would naturally think of going into business. That why nowadays we can see a lot of college students go into business. However, I am against this kind of “trend” in a personal way. I have my own reasons.
Golden days in university should be spent in equipping ourselves with knowledge instead of going into business. For one thing, as a college student, study should always be our top priority. College is the important place for us to acquire knowledge and prepare ourselves for future development. We should maximize this opportunity to learn as much as we can and equip ourselves with knowledge. Only we have a good command over a wide range of knowledge, can we compete with others in this competitive society. If you do not have ample knowledge, how can you expect to “defeat” others?
For another, we should value the opportunity of learning while in university. Youth will soon be gone never to return. It will be too late for us to go into scholarship when in our declining years. Those who go into business will obviously waste the golden time for learning. If you lose the opportunity of learning, it will be difficult to pick it up again. Once you begin to work, you will have little time and energy to study or even finish reading a book.
Some people may argue that going into business while in university will help one to accumulate work experiences and thus be more competitive in the future job market.
But this is not exactly the case.
First, we are aware that going into business is not the only way to accumulate our experiences. There are all kinds of clubs on campus, and if you will, you can join in these clubs and train yourself through all kinds of ways.
What’s more, it is hard to balance study and work and it is a waste of parents’ money. If too much energy is put in the work, one will definitely lag behind others. It is possible that he or she would fail in certain courses. Our parents work hard to support us and pay for your education fees. They do not expect us to waste their money by what we call “accumulating experiences”. It is not wise at all to do so.
As a proverb goes, “Chances favor those are prepared.” University is a place for us to prepare ourselves for the future work and we should bear in mind that we need to do the right thing at the right time. Going into business while in university will do more harm than good. So, why not pull ourselves all together and study attentively for a bright future?
