The United States Center for Citizen Diplomacy is a nonprofit group started in Iowa in 2006. It says every American has the right, and even the responsibility, to help shape foreign relations “one handshake at a time”.

美国公民外交中心是2006年在爱荷华州成立的一个非盈利性组织。它指出,每一个美国人都有权利,甚至有责任在“每次握手时”帮助塑造(美国的)外交形象。

Last week, in Washington, the center honored six Americans with its first National Awards for Citizen Diplomacy. A two-day conference also took place to urge more Americans to become citizen diplomats.

19 years old *Anjali Bhatia of New Jersey was the youngest winner. At 16, she started a group called Discover Worlds to built relation between the United States and Rwanda. The aim is to help orphans from the 1994 general side (genocide) and young people affected by HIV to stay in school.

来自新泽西州的19岁女孩Anjali Bhatia是最年轻的获奖者。16岁时,为了建立美国和卢旺达之间的关系,她创办了一个名为发现世界的组织。该组织的目的就是帮助1994年在卢旺达发生的“种族灭绝”事件中活下来的孤儿以及帮助感染HIV的年轻人,让他们可以继续上学。

Discover Worlds has 57 locally around (run) student groups across the United States. And there are hopes of partnership in India soon. * Anjali Bhatia says that by the end of this year, Discover Worlds hopes to be supporting about 250 Rwandan orphans. Its members also write letters to the children.
