absolutely wonderful opening ceremony, i know i can only remember 3, but todays ceremony beats the other two by miles. The organization and timing was wonderful, the sheer scale exciting and the torch lighting astounding. After the (people may not like this) bore of Athens' ceremony, i was amazed and pleased to see such a spectacle. London, you now know what we've got to achieve, good luck
绝对美妙的开幕式，我只记得3个开幕式，但是这一个把其他两个甩开老远了。规模和点火炬令人惊叹。后面的运动员入场有点闷。能看到这样的奇观我非常惊叹和高兴。伦敦，你现在知道该怎么做了吧？祝你好运！。

Beautiful.. just that.. nothing else.. beautiful.. China did it very well indeed.. the best Opening Ceremony ever to happen on an Olympic...
Well its understandable.. China is the richest country in terms of foreign reserves on planet earth..
They have 1,5 Trillion USDollars in reserves...
Spending 50 billion on an olympic barely makes a dent on China's huge and fat savings piggy bank..
Congrats To China..

What a amazing show Beijing has given us. It was simply breathtaking, beautifully choreographed and lavish visual display of fireworks, chinese history and culture.
Hope London can match it in 2012

We are watching from Australia, it's actually being shown here in Full Hi-Def, but alas no plasma to watch it on. But even on the old-skool TV it's absolutely amazing!

Mike sent a text asking how we would compete with the chinese in 4 years time.
I don't think we have it in us. The Chinese seem extremely proud of this event and have pulled out all the stops.
All we'll do is waste money and employ unsuitable people to sort the ceremony out.
Anyway, have we got anything worth telling the world about? As far as I can see at the moment, all that happens in Britain is that kids kill each other.
It's a sorry state of affairs that I hope changes before 2012.

Will Britian have the same unity when we open the games in 2012. Of course not the last thing on show will be the Union Jack. With all the nationalism in Britan today how are we going to explain why we need 4 flag poles instead of 1.
Nothing British about the event today everyone was united pulling together in the name of sport.
I thought the commentry on BBC 1 was rubbish.Far too political for a sporting event and they were rarely talking about the event itself.
Well done China that was an opening ceremony to be proud of the best yet.

For cultural references to draw upon for an opening ceremony China does have a bit of an advantage.
When most of Western Europe was basically peopled by savages, China had already embarked upon a civilised culture that had refinements that weren't to be seen here for a couple of thousand years. It is the oldest continuous culture on Earth and though surpassed technologically by us for a few centuries has in the space of a couple of generations cought us up and will in the latter part of the 21st Century be the most powerful economy in the World.
One can only but marvel at the sheer arrogance and brutal economic power displayed in this Olympic opening ceremony. It was truly Olympic.
What government in the West apart from probably the USA could muster such economic power to put on such a spectacle as we have witnessed today?
It was both awe-inspiring and frightening.
They wanted to send out a message to us and boy didn't they?
在文化方面中国的确有优势。
当咱们欧洲人还住山洞的时候，中国人已经比我们早几千年过上了精致文明的日子。中国文化是地球上最古老的、延续的文化。虽然最近几百年被我们的科技超越，但是我相信21世纪他们会成为最大的经济强国。
我们只能惊叹于北京奥运展示出的他们的自豪和强大的经济实力。
西方国家该怎样聚集经济实力才能搞一场这样壮观的盛典？
令人敬畏啊。
这就是他们想传递给我们的信息，不是吗？

The Chinese have given a new meaning to the word “spectacular”. Unfortunately having to wade through a swarm of ugly commercials spoiled the whole affect. The first hour had almost 25 minutes of commercials or promos and the ugly NBC logo was attached to the screen in the upper right corner like a gigantic tick sucking the lifeblood out of the picture.
It was without a doubt the most extraordinary event I have seen in more than my 80+ years on the earth. The opening drumming was eyepopping and the ending was without equal in any exhibition I have ever witnessed.
I was in China 20 years ago this month and the progress they have made during the last 20 years is staggering. I think we have just seen the opening shot in their dominance of the world stage. The USA is about to become an also ran thanks to the buffoons in Washington.
中国人赋予了“精彩”二字全新的定义。不幸的是逡巡于一堆破广告里令效果大打折扣。头个小时就有将近25分钟广告，NBC那个破台标跟个大虱子似的死巴着电视右上角好想要从画面里头吸血。
毫无疑问，这是我八十多年来看过的世上最超乎寻常的节目。开幕鼓舞让人眼珠子都掉出来，结尾更是无与伦比。
二十年前的这个月我去过中国，他们这些年的发展出人意料。我想我们刚刚看了他们重新站上世界舞台的一幕。就因为华盛顿的那些小丑，美国要成废物点心了。
