The Isreali Environmental Organization's zalul Israeli environmental organization Zalul has appealed to the Pope pope and other world leaders to help save what is called it calls the " world's most holy river. " The Jordan River is polluted and in danger of going dry. The World Monument's Monuments Fund placed the river on its 2008 watch list of 100 most-in-danger sightsmost endangered sites.
The Jordan is more than 300 kilometers long. It begins in the mountains of Lebanon and Syria. It ends at the Dead Sea-- , the lowest point on earth Earth, 400 meters the low below the level of the Mediterranean Sea.
The southern part of the river forms the border between Jordan and Isreal Israel and includes part of the Palestinian territories.
