I have to confess that I am a demanding person, especially for the things that I concern. I am pretty sure that I have benefited quite a lot from wanting things to work out in their best possibilities. If I were not demanding, I would be in a very different place now. I wouldn't have ended up top in my undergraduate program; I wouldn't have established a SIFE chapter at USST; I wouldn't be teaching English; I wouldn't be able to undertake a handful of demanding tasks at a time. As far as I am concerned, being demanding has it root all in "ego". The initial state of this mentality could be self-consciousness, and it undergoes changes over time. It is likely to turn into self-esteem and dignity. Eventually it takes on the form of self-confidence in one's ability, resulted from gaining favorable outcomes in the previous state. I remember someone remarked that being self-conscious or shy is not necessarily bad, because it's much better than being not at all. Self-conscious people may not cause a stir, but they demand that they behave in a socially acceptable way, which we should be supportive of. Turn back to my case, however, what I don't like about me being demanding is that I am being too picky sometimes. So, never overdo it.
