英语议论文的写作在越来越多的考试中被要求，如雅思和GMAT，但许多人并不清楚它的写作要点。毋庸质疑，所有的优秀文章都建立在正确的语言使用上，只是议论文的措辞就更有要求了，也就是，用词的风格应比较正式和严谨。比如：Numerous studies concerning the effects of TV violence on children have found that children are becoming "immune" to the horror of violence. 然后和下面这句话比较一下，Many reports that study the influence of TV violence on children have shown that children have no feelings when they see the horrible violence. 第一句就显得更形象、简洁，语言也要更地道，而第二句有些冗长，语言也不够精彩。另外，议论文一定要注意逻辑性，才可以使观点有说服力。我觉得写作议论文有点像辩论，只要你说服了读者，你的文章也就成功了。辩论也是那样的，不管采用什么策略，只要评判被你折服，也就意味着胜利。而很多学生写作的时候常常只是泛泛而言，甚至凑字数，结果使文章缺乏逻辑性和说服力。看下面这段话：College students shouldn't be encouraged to take part-time jobs since more and more students commit suicide because of unbearable pressures. 这个句子就属于没有说服力的例子，因为不鼓励大学生做兼职和由于压力过大而自杀之间并没有causal link，也就是没有因果关系，如果要建立这样的关系，就必须再补充信息，例如：College students are not mature enough to handle too many demanding tasks well. When students fail to balance their study and part-time jobs, they will be put on enormous pressure, which may lead to severe depression or even suicide. Therefore, college students shouldn't be encouraged to take part-time jobs. 如果能这样富有逻辑性地分析，就可以既有说服力又有字数保证了。
