You often people talking about the generation gap between parents and their children. But it seems to me there is a gap between my sisters and me.
My family is a large family, if compared with the average Chinese families with an only child. I have there youger sisters. Even though I feel I am quite close to them, sometimes, I just can't understand what they are thinking about.
My feeling about the gap starts at the decision of thinking about quiting school and going to work in the factory made by my yougest letter. The reason for this would be as follows.
First, she doesn't want to go to school and doesn't want to stay home either, for she doesn't feel the sense of belonging at home. I think the way my parents regulate maybe partly to blame. My father always chatters a lot and we don't feel very good about this; my mother always expects too much out of us, and if you do it wrong, she may scold a little bit. For my youngest sister, I think she is misled in the wrong direction. There are so many toxic, junk TV shows and serials, especially those pictured in Taiwan, which showcase the excessive individualism and unreal ideal living style. In a family, no one is abolutely right. It involves a lot of give and take. For my sister, she always yells at others and says others don't care about her feeling; She probably learned these from the lines in the junk TV serials. But since when she cares about others' feeling, does she actually realize who would be hurt the most when she spoke that out loud???
Second, she wants to stay with her boyfriend. Shocking? isn't it. She's only sixteen, yet she has a boyfriend and decides to go with him to work in the factory. Yet you have to accept the fact that it is true and you can not brutely interfere her own business. But you have to everything you can to control the damage and make the wrong thing right? When I was sixteen years old, I am foucsed on my study and my basketball and my TV shows. Although I admit I would feel atrracted to the opposite sex, I would never ask one out. Things change now. Not only do the 90s have their so called boyfriend or grilfriend, but also they fear nobody at home. They would think it doen't matter even if others they are well-behaviored. What is wrong with my sister? what is wrong the 90s? what is wrong with our education system?
If my youngest sister is misled in the wrong direction, I will do everything I can to set it right. My family has done a lot to bring her back in the right course, which is to continue her high school study, especially my mother. I would never doubt that higher enduation is the basic path for one to develop. Now she is willing to go back to school, but still with some resistance sometimes.
We are a family. Nothing will tear us apart.

Heart Disease, Stroke Claim More Than 17 Million Lives a Year
The World Heart Federation
says heart disease and stroke are commonly believed to be diseases of the wealthy, but studies show 80 percent of all deaths from these chronic illnesses occur in low and middle-income countries. The Federation's Chief Executive Officer, Janet Voute, says cardiovascular diseases are on the increase across the African continent. Much of this, she says, is due to increased urbanization.
"When people move from rural to urban, there are major changes in their life, such as a decrease in physical activity, a change in dietary pattern, an increase in fast food and a decrease in fruit and vegetable consumption, for example. There is also an uptake of unhealthy habits such as smoking. So a lot of society’s trends are going in the wrong direction."
Voute says obesity is another major risk factor. She says Africa bears a double burden of malnutrition, that of underweight children and of overweight adults. She says it's important to focus on improving lifestyles within an African specific context to get the message across that overweight and obesity can lead to life-threatening conditions.

Janet Voute
Voute

US Public Diplomacy Chief 'Waging Peace' With New Initiatives
She said this boy came from the same neighborhood as the Casablanca suicide bombers, but that perhaps now, the youth had a reason to live rather than a reason to die. Hughes says she hopes this kind of programs will provide stability and opportunities for young people all over the world. She says the budget for these initiatives has gone up in her two years as Under Secretary of State, but she would like to have even more funding for more work.
"This kind of programs ought to be a national security priority, because I really believe that winning over populations, and winning over the ideological struggle is as important as the military side.”
Hughes, a close friend to President Bush, served as his White House Counselor during his presidency from 2001 to 2002. The president asked her to come back in 2005 after he was reelected for second term to serve in her current position. Hughes says she's trying to change the minds of those who dislike the United States, one person at a time, if need be.

US Public Diplomacy Chief 'Waging Peace' With New Initiatives
"It’s a small group of people who come to work everyday with the mindset of how can I advance the ideological struggle against extremism and terrorism across the world today."
Hughes says communications, cultural exchange programs and improving the lives of others through health, education and economic incentives can help to counter terrorism. She says reaching out to young audiences in other countries is the main target of this project. Hughes recently launched another program aimed at young people, aged 8 to 14 in 13, mostly Islamic, countries.
Speaking to members of the foreign press in New York recently, Hughes said that the Youth Enrichment Programs, or YEP offers sports, music, art and English classes to over 6,000 youngsters, including in the West Bank and Gaza.
"We try to focus these programs in areas of disadvantaged youth that are both vulnerable to radical recruitment but also where they don't typically have these kind of opportunities."
Hughes recalled a boy she met during a recent visit to an English class in Morocco. The youth told her that he had found work thanks to his ability to speak English.

“我们的项目集中在向生活贫困的青年的地区,这些地区很容易成为极端分子招募成员的场所,也没有机会让他们发展。”

US Public Diplomacy Chief 'Waging Peace' With New Initiatives
Hughes
travels the world, championing the causes of women, opening schools and clinics, establishing English-language classes and communicating with international media. It's her job as a U.S. government official, but she also calls it "waging peace". And she says the need to reach out to the rest of the world is more important now than ever before for the United States.
According to polls like the Pew Global Attitudes Project, formerly positive views of America have dropped significantly, especially in the Middle East. The U.S. government's actions overseas continue to be a key factor in anti-American sentiment abroad. Hughes says she hopes her new initiatives will prove to the international community that America does want to be friendly with every country.
One project Hughes created this past summer is the CounterTerrorismCommunicationCenter. She says the group of State Department experts who work in this program has an understanding of and is culturally sensitive to Muslim and Middle Eastern audiences. She says the center provides the intellectual framework for how the United States responds to terrorism.

Manilow says the biggest challenge he faced with the latest in the series was making acoustic versions of his own 70s' hits.
"It took two months to figure out how to do it. It sounded simple. We’d do an “unplugged” acoustic version of all these things. It was very difficult. I wound up doing two and three renditions of each one. But we finally got it. It's a beautiful album"
Music
Barry made his first appearance on the pop chart with “Mandy”. The song, which climbed the Number One in 1975, is one of six Manilow Hits from the 1970s that he added as acoustic bonus tracks on his new album.
Barry retired from the road in 2004 after performing his sold-out “One Night Live, One Last Time” tour. In early 2005, he began a long-term engagement at the 1,700-seat Hilton Theater in Las Vegas. Last year, the run was extended through 2008.
The first single from Barry's new album, the Greatest Songs of the Seventies, is his remake of Albert Hammond' Top five Hips from 1970s, “It Never Rains in Southern California”.
Manilow

"How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again...."
The Bee Gees' how can you mend a broken heart is one of twelve tunes Barry Manilow covers on Greatest Songs of the Seventies. He also recorded classics by Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, Elton John, the Hollies, Carole King and other 1970s superstars. Barry says, “I sent a list to every NO.1 record in 1970s to everybody I knew and asked them to pick their favorites”. He tallied the results and found many to be the same songs he and co-producer Clive David plans to include on the project.
"I think what we did was that not only the greatest titles, the most popular titles. But for me, the most melodic songs I could find. These are the most melodic songs, songs like, you’ve got a friend and sorry seems to be the hardest word. You know, these are not the disco songs or the rock and roll. These are the most melodic songs that we could find. It’s a beautiful romantic representation."
"Sailing takes me away
To where I’ve always heard it could be
Just the dream and will that carry me
And soon I will be free
I will be free"
Last year, Barry recorded his first two decade-driven albums, combining sales of Greatest Hits of 50s and Greatest Hits of 60, reaching nearly 2 million copies in the United States.

Bush Plans Key Meetings on Sidelines of UN Meeting
"And to this end, we are working with allies and friends to send a consistent message to the Iranians that there is a better way forward for them than isolation, financial isolation, and/or, economic sanctions."
And the ministerial-level meeting of the five permanent UN Security Council member countries plus Germany on Friday is expected to focus on a new sanctions resolution against Iran. President Ahmadinejad’s visit to New York includes a speech at ColumbiaUniversity and a video news conference with reporters in Washington. But it will not include a visit to the site of the WorldTradeCenter destroyed in the terrorist attack of 2001.New York city police blocked that visit.
President Bush says he understands why. “I can understand why they would not want somebody running a country who is a state-sponsor of terror down there at the site."
In an interview with an American television network before his arrival in New York, President Ahmadinejad said Iran does not sponsor terrorists and condemns violence against civilians. President Bush concludes his time in New York Wednesday with a meeting with Afghan President Hami Karzai.
“为此,我们联合我们的盟国和朋友向伊朗人民传递我方一贯的立场,
