I felt it was unfair. I felt it was (un) unjust. I felt
it was untrue. I felt for those who were doing
that, were doing it for some very devious reasons.
On the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton has been meeting
with Democratic leaders, making her pitch to uncommitted superdelegates. Barack
Obama has been making his pitch to union activists in Chicago. And John McCain
most recently was in New Orleans, saying the government response to Hurricane
Katrina was out-and-out mismanagement.
The tax rebate checks start going out next week. CNN's
Dick Uliano reports this is part of the economic
stimulus package.
Jim, the Treasury Department says tax rebate electronic
funds transfers will start going out Monday to 800,000 taxpayers, 4 days
earlier than planned. Paper checks will start going out in the mail, May 9th, a week earlier than planned. The goal is to give the
struggling economy a shot in the arm. And the plan is to distribute 110 billion
dollars. And they're now aiming to get about half of it into people's hands by the end of

A New York judge today has
scheduled to rule whether the cops who shot and killed an unarmed groom-to-be
back in 2006 committed any crimes. Three police detectives are charged in the
death of Sean Bell.

Weather experts meanwhile conclude that it indeed was a tornado with winds over
100 miles an hour. That destroyed homes and uprooted trees in suburban Fort
Worth Wednesday night. Despite the damage, no injuries were reported in the
Texas storm.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says President Bush should
stop sending oil to the nation's oil reserves
for a while to allow that oil onto the market to lower the price of gas. She
says it will lower prices as much as 24 cents a gallon. CNN's Ali Velshi
reports the AAA Travel Club says the national average went up again overnight.
3 dollars and 58 cents for a gallon of gasoline, that's
up 2 cents from yesterday. 3.58, we were supposed to hit 3.50 by Memorial Day,
according to some people's estimates. Eh, CIBC, the bank came out with an
estimate today to say that oil will hit 150 dollars a barrel before summer.
Interesting, coz oil's actually pared back a little bit. It's under 116 dollars
right now.
Scientists conducting a genetic study say the human
race was nearly wiped out about 70,000 years
ago. It's believed drought and other factors may have reduced the number of
humans to about 2,000 in
small groups in Africa before the species rebounded in the early Stone Age.

Actor Wesley Snipes intends to appeal his three-year prison sentence for failing to file tax
returns before the judge gave him the maximum. Prosecutors say Snipes escaped paying more than 15
million dollars in income taxes by sending money
to overseas accounts.
Passengers on a United Airlines flight from Hong Kong
to Los Angeles overpowered a man they say attacked a flight attendant. They duct-taped him to his seat. He was arrested when the
flight landed in L.A. It wasn't clear what triggered his attack. The passengers
say he was drunk.
