用来指明后面的宾语和其前面之名词或动词之关系，通常置于宾语的前面。

The book on/in/by/near/under the book.

They walked across the park.
around the park.
under the bridge.
down the street.
over the hill.
on the sidewalk.

介词的功用：

1 修饰名词或相当词

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
一鸟在手胜过二鸟在林。

The man with a stick in his hand is my teacher.

2 作主语补语

Your grade is below average.

3 作宾语补语

You will find the story of sepcial interst to women.
你会发现此故事对女人特别具有吸引力。

4 作副词用

The napkin(餐巾) is placed beside the plate.
餐巾放在盘子旁边

5 介词动词

I came across an old friend of mine.
我碰到一位老朋友。
