国内汉译英的最大特点，就是译文显得有些啰嗦。这不仅给译员带来沉重的负担，而且常常听上去词不达意，或者言过其实，甚至给人造成缺少诚意的印象。

文化差异
最典型的也是屡见不鲜的例子，就是把“衷心感谢你们的盛情邀请”，译成 heart-felt thanks for your warm invitation.
首先，英、美人士即使在正式场合表示感谢时，也往往仅说 thank you for…。heart-felt thanks极少听到别人使用。
其次，在英文里，感谢主人的盛情邀请用thank you for your invitation就已经到位了。如果在话到位后还继续加强语气，就是画蛇添足了，就会听上去言不由衷。举个中文的例子：如果与你同龄的好邻居看到你手中提了很多东西，帮你拉开过道的门，你说声“谢谢”恐怕就足够了。但是如果你认认真真地说“我真是衷心地感谢你帮我拉开了折扇门” ，你的邻居很可能会一愣，使劲想你到底什么意思。
英译汉时，中英双方五六个人坐在一间小屋子里，也不是什么特别的高层会谈，英方接待的人档次也不高，如果这时翻译说 First of all, I would like to extend our heart-felt thanks for your warmest invitation，在英国人看来，就有点上面描绘的那种感谢过头的感觉。
但是在中文中，如果不说“衷心感谢”，不提“盛情邀请”，就显得不够热情。译员必须根据情况掌握分寸，既要充分表达中方的诚挚谢意，又不能完全直译，以免让英国人听了过分，结果适得其反。

重复表达
导致英文译文啰嗦的一个重大原因是中文里的重复现象。重复有语言上的根本原因。中文里以代词开始的从句，没有英文里使用得那么普遍，经常需要靠重复来明确动作的始发者。这只是中文里重复较多的一个例子。
与实战口译相关的重复有两大类型。一类是后面两个字说的意思和前面两个字差不多。在这种情况下，汉译英时不用译出重复说明或是强调语气的那部分，只要译出核心词汇就够了。

例：刻苦勤奋——diligent 兢兢业业——dedicated 多才多艺——talented
不断扩大——expanding 更新、更高的要求——higher demand

另一种类是，有一些字是用来强调语气的，实际上没有增加新的意思。

例：“不断扩大”（有断断续续的扩大吗？扩大本身就是一个发展过程的概念）
“更新、更高的要求”（新要求是否已经包括了更高要求的含义呢？或者说更高的要求不已经是新的要求了吗？）
“深入探讨”（那些探讨是肤浅的呢？）
“反复重复”（反复的不就是重复的吗？）

强调语气的另一种表现是修饰词加修饰词，层层叠叠。这些修饰词如果不一一译出，译员会担心被说成是遗漏，不准确。如果是领导的正式讲话，那更是敏感。但是如果把中文里的所有字都翻译出来，英文句子自然冗长。

例：讲话原文：……无数仁人志士苦苦探索救国救民的道路。
照顾中文原文：…numerous good and ambitious people tried again and again and very hard too, to find a way to save the country and the nation.
照顾英文习惯：…we searched hard for a way to save the nation.

讲话原文：坚决、彻底、全面的改善
照顾中文原文：firm, thorough and comprehensive improvement
照顾英文习惯：thorough improvement
