Suppliers to the Chinese dairy industry are believed to have added the banned chemical melamine, normally used in plastics, to watered-down milk to make it appear higher in protein.

III. Rail service resumes Tuesday along the tracks where a Metrolink train collided with a freight train, killing 25 people. Los Angeles officials say the crash happened because an engineer failed to stop at a red signal. The National Transportation Safety Board says its probe into the matter could take months.
