Murfreesboro is known for its diamonds. Visitors, like Hermansons come all the way from West Virginia, to the one-of-a-kind diamond park in town. Thomas Stolartz, a superintendent at the park knows why. “And that’s the neat thing here, there are actually here, there is actually treasure here, and you can actually look for it, and if you find it, it’s yours to keep.”
Thomas Stolartz says for just $6, visitor can spend a whole day at the park to search and dig diamonds. “The search area is about 37.5 acres in size so there is plenty of room for everyone.
Diamonds are formed deep within the earth where heat and pressure create the necessary condition for carbon atoms to bond tightly. According to scientists, a volcanic eruption at the Crater of Diamonds location one hundred million years ago brought the diamonds to the earth’s surface.
Since the first diamond was found in the crater of diamonds in 1906, the park had several different owners until the State Kansas made it a state park in 1972.

To seek the answer to this mystery, NASA has launched five satellites abroad a Delta Rocket from Florida to train their instruments on the northern and southern lights. The project is called THEMIS.
Once in orbit, two of the THEMIS spacecraft will circle Earth about one-sixth the distance to the moon while the other two circle half way to the moon. A fifth will be a reserve, if the one of the others fails during the two-year mission.
Angelopoulos says a finding will help the scientists know more about the threatening solar storms and how our planet’s magnetic field works.
Cramming five of miniature satellites into the nose of one launch rocket has a collateral engineering benefit. Each is a cube, less than one meter wide and high.
The THEMIS project manager with the University of California at Berkeley, Peter Harvey, says it has taught technicians how to make small satellites with little computer and other miniature instruments. “It’s been a challenging project to pack so much into five small spacecrafts. We look forward to some terrific scientific discoveries. ”
Cramming n.
miniature n.
collateral adj.间接的
cube n.

1、get to the bottom of this
在这种情况下,我们往往会用get to the bottom of something这个习惯用语。
eg. I didn't use my credit card last month. So I was shocked when I saw on the statement for last month that there's a new balance of 2000 dollars. I'm going to get to the bottom of this and find out who used my credit card.
2、give a damn
在这里give a damn标准译为care,I don't give a damn = I don't care 约等于 I don't wanna know。
)
eg. I don't give a damn what they say.
3、slip up
4、slipped up

The so called northern and southern lights, glow and shimmer colorfully, in what 19th century Scottish poet W.E. Aytoun described as streamers shooting all night long across trembling sky.
Despite their visual appeal, these brilliant light shows are actually storms—geomagnetic storms. Scientists call them substorms, a part of larger storm of energy propelled from the sun at supersonic speed toward earth and else where in the solar system.
This energy involves tons of charged particles, hurled our way in the so-called solar wind. Earth’s magnetic field repels most of this onslaught, but some occasionally leaks though as a result of a sudden, explosive release of these particles from the solar wind.
The outcome is the light show over the poles and sometimes the undesirable disruption of electrical power system and telecommunication on Earth and space craft in orbit.
Solar physicist Vassilis Angelopoulos of the University of California at Berkeley says the precise point in Earth’s magnetic field where this explosive particle release occurs and the sequence of events leading to it have puzzled scientist for three decades.

The film industry is a giant engine of economic growth, employing more than 750,000 people and boasting a surplus balance of trade with every single country in the world.
The attendees met in small groups as well as some in formal symposia, and included filmmakers, lawmakers, cinema art students and other industry constituents from around the world.
California senator Diane Feinstein reflected on both the art and commerce involved in filmmaking. “Great movies, I believe, shape who we are as American, in our own eyes, and in the eyes of the world. And this industry not only impacts American culture, it impacts our economy.”
An economic impact report will released at the conference finds that the U.S. film industry generates more than 1.3 million American jobs, pumping 60.4 billion dollars into the U.S. economy, and generating 10 billion dollars in tax revenue.
This revenue could be substantially higher, said the report, were it not for the global phenomenon of copyright theft. Illegal download and pirate DVDs cost the industry billions, a matter that is sure to be addressed in future conferences.
