自己在沪江做的第三期节目居然加进沪江总固定，觉得真是意外。

大家好，本期sonatina将给大家带来两个有意思的句子，一个是关于“成功”一个是关于“the goal of life——人生/生命的目标”，我想这两个话题永远是值得每个人去思考的。尤其是在这样的一个艰难的时刻，我们希望地震灾区的人们能够勇敢的挺过来，能够展现人类顽强与大自然抗争的能力！

正如温总理所说：

下面我们来看今天要翻译的两个句子:

**何为成功？

1． To us，a winner is one who responds authentically by being credible, trustworthy, responsive, and genuine, both as an individual and as a member of a society.

要点：由who引导的定于从句修饰one。by用作介词，意思是“借助于”。四个平行的形容词credible，trustworthy，responsive和genuine一起作动名词being的标表语。固定用法both…and…意思是“既…又…”。因为定语太长，建议采用分句法和融合法进行翻译。

**看看别人眼中的人生目标是怎样的，然后想想自己的goal of life……

要点：本句结构复杂。有一个非限定性定语从句who are our ideological ancestors（修饰thinkers），一个that引导的宾语从句，一个what引导的主语从句和两个who引导的定语从句（分别修饰person和one）。因为非限定性定语从句较长，翻译时采用后置法。Who引导的定语从句比较简单，可翻译成带“的”的汉语偏正结构。

今天我们继续练习定语从句，不过一个是比较冗长的定语疑问句，一个是比较文绉绉的类似小说里的一个句子，呵呵，都挺有意思的，做完相信你一定会有不小的收获哦！下面我们开始吧：

 

第一个句子，超长疑问句：

1．What should doctors say, for example, to a 46-old man coming in for a routine physical check up just before going on vacation with his family who, though he feels in perfect health, is found to have a form of cancer that will cause him to die within six months?

要点：这是一个长疑问句，中心词是man。Coming……family是现在分词短语，作man的定语，其中just……family是修饰coming的，不直接与man发生关系。Who……months是定语从句，修饰man。该从句又包含一个由though引导的让步状语从句和一个由that引导的定语从句。该句不能按照原来的句子那样翻译成一个长的疑问句，因为它不符合汉语表达习惯，可采用逆序法将man后面的修饰语都提到主语doctors的前面，并用分译法拆开翻译。

第二个句子：在午夜和黎明前的那段时间里，你会想到……

2． Between midnight and dawn, when sleep will not come and all the old wounds begin to ache, I often have a nightmare vision of a future world in which there are billions of people, all numbered and registered, with not a gleam of genius anywhere, not an original mind, a rich personality, on the whole packed globe.

要点：这是一个主从复合句。主句的主语I前面是一个介词短语。when是一个连词，用来说明between midnight and dawn。 in which……globe是定语从句，修饰world。numbered和registered是过去分词，修饰people。With短语也是修饰people的。on the whole packed globe是定于从句的状语。packed说明作者对这个世界充满了烟雾的感情，翻译时要译出来。从大的结构上讲，该句可按照原句的顺序翻译。all numbered and registered可译为汉语的偏正结构。

【第五十九期节目总结】

第一句的问题主要集中在对world house的翻译上。很多同学将它翻译成世界上的房子，而事实上纵观全局，用这样的翻译似乎过于具体，翻译出来的效果让人感到奇怪。如果像参考答案那样翻译成世界家庭，效果会更好。re-establish the more ends的翻译问题也比较多，应该译成重建更多的目标，end不仅是结束的意思，也可表达最后终极目标的意思。参考答案里面还加上了“道德”二字，这是比较难想到的，不过如果能像前面说的翻成重建更多的终极目标也就可以拿满分啦～

第二句的问题主要存在与对operational and mental aspects of physics  的翻译上，有些朋友将operational翻译成运转的，还有的翻译成机械的；把mental翻译成心理、理论，这都是不准确的。应当翻译成物理学中的实验操作和思维方面，这样才是准确的翻译出了句子的意思。此外，but that neither should be stressed to the exclusion of the other很多同学都翻得不错，这里涉及到neither（不能…也不能…）、the exclusion of（排除在外）、be stressed（在某种压力下被迫）以及should（应当，注意其表达的语气）几个关键词的翻译，只要多加注意细节，大家都能翻得不错^_^。
