From This Moment On
A lot of water has passed through under the bridge since I was granted this tiny cyber-abode. Any artificially plausible explanations for the procrastination will eventually metamorphosize into some embellished lame pretexts for my own slackness. But there is indeed a reason other than inertia that halts my fingers typing in the first article. I want to dedicate my maiden work to the life in BBC Intensified Training Camp – the fruitful and stressful learning course I wade through and the mixed emotions cultivated along the way. This task, I think, will be better accomplished when I am away from the stage and my passions wane.
Now is the time.
How I came to HJ is a long story. Since English is not my major , gone are the days of attending a formal English class and the CETs were among my remotest memories. Although I do like owning some certificates, the impulse is still not strong enough to make me pay dozens hundred Yuan to get one. ( Now I begin to change my mind about this^^*). So English finds more of its place in entertainment field. – movies, sitcoms, books, games – than in the sacred hall of study after I’d passed CET6. Of course, I still need English to read any number of English-language paper, theses and dissertations. But with a Chinese background already being taught, handling this mission is, believe me, easier than the first time I did the BBC exercise. Anyway, I still kept fiddling with English. I read books about Greek mythology and abridged versions of Shakespeare’s works; I watched English-language movies, enamored with some of those charming lines; and I also played video games, especially some dialogue-heavy games, for I can learn a lot about conversational sentences in a computer-generated virtual reality. Plus, some games have beautiful scores and hot ppmms(God forgive me^^*). The regular textbooks I have used are “Listen to This.” series. Finishing the third book was my major task in last winter vacation, thanks to the attainment of a high-quality version of its auditory material. This training and the following talking experience with people via UC ultimately contributed to the rekindling of my determination to study English in a serious manner. To do this, I need some partners. And a natural idea in an “Internet Age” to find a partner is Go Online.
So I came.
I signed up at 2006-4-6 0:53:00, and turned in my first transcript at 2006-4-7 9:55:00 for April 6th BBC News program, published by former host Freeion the cute monkey. It’s not long before I was hooked up by a slogan from April 14th BBC program. "Wanna more? Then come and join the 5-minute training to test your limits!" Yeah, I do want some challenging work to push myself to think harder and listen harder. So I took the red pill and went down into the rabbit hole. One second later, I find myself in a virgin land. There were two chieftains: melodious and cheerman, and there were dozens of fellow tribesmen: yolenda, hoohoo888, of whom I knew little. But it didn't matter; I was ready for the trials and tribulations ahead. I took out a pen and a piece of paper, and put on my earphone.( I used to have the habit of jotting down the transcript and then feed them into the computer. Quite silly, am I not?^^*)
Now let the bugle blow!(To be continued)
