The London-based human-rights watchdog Amnesty International has accused China and Russia, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, of continuing to supply weapons to the Sudanese authorities for use in Darfur, in breach of the UN’s mandatory arms embargo. Amnesties calls on the UN to take urgent measures to improve the effectiveness of its arms embargo. The report comes as the UN envoy on Sudan Jan Eliasson held talks in Khartoum with its opposite number from the African Union. Mr. Eliasson called for pressure on both the Sudanese government and rebel groups on the political settlement in Darfur.

“We hope now that we will have a convergence of efforts. There have been some tendencies of ?(听着象partly difference,但不确定，希望有朋友可以出来指正) but now it’s time to converge and this will end up in negotiations soon and by that the people of Darfur, after four years of nightmare, will come to peace.”
