Advertisements are seen all over China nowadays. But not all of them are reliable. Some even do great harm to people.
First of all, too many ads do spoil our daily life and waste our time. They are imposed on a captive audience when he’s watching TV programs. And most of the ads are in poor taste which would cheapens the quality of life.
Secondly, businessmen spend piles of money to increase their shares in advertising. But competitors are just canceling out each other’s efforts. And the extra costs of advertising will be passed on to the consumers. Especially in China, a developing country7, ads will bring a heavy burden to people’s life.
What’s more, some ads may be too good to be true. So they are spreading false information and planning to treat people who are eager to solve their problems. Last year, the Chinese Consumers’ Association alone received 55,871 complaints about the deceptive advertising. Fake advertising, which appears mostly in print media, cheats consumers, and in some serious cases, threatens gullible(易受欺骗的) people’s life. For instance, a farmer from Jilin Province came to Beijing to learn the skills after reading the ad made by a private school which offered a course on how to9 make lamp tubes at home. However, after spending 30,000yuan of family saving, the farmer didn’t produce a single tube. Realizing the whole thing was a hoax, the bankrupt farmer repeatedly attempted suicide.
On the whole, ads sometimes would do good to people’s life, But the advantages of ads will be minimized by their disadvantages. So advertisement has done more harm than good.
