Bend a test specimen through an angle of 180°on a mandrel having a diameter equal to the thickness of the specimen. Using a sharp instrument, attempt to detach any of the coating on the outside radius of the 180°bend. When the coated articles are not readily adaptable to the bend test, adhesion may be determined on the broken edges after a specimen has been bent to the breaking point. If neither of the above procedures are adaptable, adhesion may be determined on the coated article by cutting the coating from the basis metal at the interface in the continuous path, and examining at 4 diameters magnification to determine whether removal was caused by the cutting away of an adherent coating or by the lifting of a non-adherent coating. Observation for adhesion when performing the metallographic thickness determination is another means to verify adhesion properties. The post curing note of the nickel plate referenced on the affected part drawings generally for 1 h at 370°~400°C represents an opportunity to judge adhesion by virtue of the observance of raised or popped-up segments of nickel plate as blisters which will occur if the parts are improperly cleaned prior to plating or poor plating practice is prevalent during the plating process.
