Security officials in Afghanistan say 8 police officers have been killed in attacks by militants in the south of the country. That’s the latest in thea series of attacks on government teams working to eradicate the opium harvest. Alex Kruger reports from Kabul. The opium poppy harvest in southern Afghanistan is only weeks away. Police were are destroying more poppy fields, but that brought spotted attacks from militants allyied to opium traffickers and the Taliban. On Saturday, police in the southern province of Kandahar say 4 officers were killed by the Taliban as they were eradicating opium poppy. In neighboring HelmandProvince, an explosion targeted a police eradication team, but there were’re no casualty figures available yet. In a separate incident, 4 police officers in Helmand were killed and 5 injured in a Taliban ambush.
