Dictation A new scientific report says human activity is eliminating about 1% of all animal species each year. It reckons that more than 1 in 4 species have vanished in the past 35 years. Roger Harrabin reports. The index is combined compiled by the Zoo Ecological Society of London, along with the wildlife group, WWF. It trackts 1,500 species, among these hardest hit have been African antelopes, sword/ fish,hammerhead sharks/ shocks, and the Baiji, the Yangtze River dolphin. Next week there issees a major meeting of the UN convention on bio-diversity, created to stabilize the loss of species. The Zoo Ecological Society of London said governments had failed to put in place the policiesy is needed to stop what it called one of the great extinction episodes in the history of the planet. |
