DictationThe former rebel Maoist Party in Nepal has said that it’ll not agree to form the country’s new government. The announcement came 24 hours after the defeat of the Maoist candidate for president in a Parliamentary vote. Alan Johnston reports. The Maoist’s emerge from recent elections is as by far the largest single party in Parliament, and the former guerilla movement was very much expected to lead the government. Following the defeat of their presidential candidate, however, the Maoists now say that they will play no part in the new administration. But any government formed without them would have to draw together several minor parties in what would likely be a very unstable alliance. You’re listening to the World News from the BBC. |
