US Central Bank Chief: Fed Will Cut Interest Rates As Needed

 大意
Bernanke said something should be done to stimulate the American economy.

 听写
Bernanke said the housing market is continuing to weaken, as problems persist with mortgage lending. Speaking to a business audience in Washington, Bernanke signaled that further interest rates cut are aheadin our head. “We stand ready to take substantive additional action, as needed to support growth, and provide adequate insurance against downside risks.” Financial markets are now expecting a one-half percent reduction in the short term fed funds rate, when the Federal Reserve policy making committee concludes a 2-day meeting on January 30th. In an effort to boost economic activity, the Federal Reserve has cut interest rates 3 times, by accumulative a cumulative 1% since a housing-related credit crisis rattled global markets in August. While acknowledging that there has been a significant slowdown in the US economy, Bernanke says that he does not foresee an outright decline. “The Federal Reserve is not currently forecasting a recession, we’re forecasting a slow growth, as I mentioned today, there’re downside risks.” Some forecasters believe that falling home prices and higher gasoline prices have already triggered a slowdown in consumers’ spending, and that the economy may even now be in recession.
