We are turning now to another story.
One week after being fined a record ten million dollars for continuing to fly planes that miss mandatory inspections, Southwest Airlines today grounded dozens of planes review maintenance. NBC's Tom Costello has details now.

"We decided to reinspect these aircraft out of abundance of caution.(不确定)"

Last week, congress got involved after two whistle-blowers accused fellow FAA inspectors of letting Southwest continue to fly despite the missed inspections. Two FAA employees have been disciplined, investigators later found cracks in six of those planes.
"There were cracks in the fuselage. Cracks have a disturbing habit of propagating."
Of the planes temporally grounded today, 1 was already retired, 5 were in maintenance and 38 will remove from service.
"Given what I know about Southwest Airlines today, in the work that they are doing reviewing all the maintenance processes. I would not have a problem getting on the Southwest Airplanes today."
Southwest only flies 737s. It has 520 of them with maintenance spaces in Dallas, Chicago, Orlando, Houston and Baltimore. The Airlines has suspended three of its employees, but in an interview with NBC News last week, the CEO said safety was never compromised.
"At no time, were any of our aircraft operated in an unsafe manner."
Today, Southwest cancelled 4 percent of its flights, and indicated it may cancel more as it reviews its entire maintenance program.

Southwest Airlines says it temporarily grounded 44 older 737s after an internal
audit of its maintenance program revealed problems with
procedures and recordkeeping.
It all concerns one of the most important tests Airlines conduct, looking for cracks that might develop in the plane's skin. But checks became mandatory after the top of an Aloha Airlines 737 ripped open at 1988, killing a flight attendant.
