Clashes have been continuing in Gaza between rival supporters of the Fatah Party of the Palestinian leader Mohammed Abbas and the governing Hamas Movement. Medical sources say at least 9 people have been killed and nearly 100 wounded.

Here in the center of Gaza city, burst of fire can be heard every few minutes. Sometimes there’re much louder blasts and ambulance sirens go wailing through the streets. In a latest fighting, Hamas men overran a small security force compound and then celebrated it on one of the main avenues nearby. But during the night, it was their rivals who scored a psychological victory. The presidential guard which serves the Fatah leader President Mohammed Abbas stormed and for a time held the Islamic University which has long been regarded as a Hamas bastion.
