Set in the 1920s and '30s, it is the story of Charles Ryder (Bettany), an aspiring painter who gets mixed up with the aristocratic, beautiful, doomed Flyte family - sister Julia (Connolly) and gay brother Sebastian (Law).

故事讲述查尔斯受到好朋友塞巴斯汀的邀请，前往豪华的「新娘庄园」度假，进而与塞巴斯汀的妹妹相恋，原本一段受到众人祝福的情感，却在塞巴斯汀无意发现后产生了变化，塞巴斯汀似乎不太希望促成好友与妹妹，百般阻挠之下，查尔斯慢慢发现，原来塞巴斯汀对查尔斯的情感，并不止于友谊…于是，一段介于兄妹、同性间，且不见容于当时贵族社会的情欲挣扎就此展开…
