1) Iraqi police say at least 25 people have been killed in a suicide truck bombing in the Northern city of Tal Afar. Authority says the attack occurred today in a crowded Shiite neighborhood in a mixed Sunni-Shiite city. And an Iraqi army official said at least 22 people were wounded in the attack. He says the death toll could rise. Meanwhile in Baghdad police say a roadside bomb killed at least 5 people early today in a predominated Shiite neighborhood.
2) A US Congressinal report says the Defence Department has lost track of 190,000 assault rifles and pistols given to Iraqi security forces a few years ago. The Gov't Accounting Office, the investigaors of arm of Congress say the missing AK-47 pistols are more than half the weapons intended for the Iraqis from June, 2004 through Sep,2005. GAO report raises concern that some of the guns may affor into the hands of sergeants.
3) President Bush and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai hold a second-day of talks today at the Camp David US presidential retreat just outside Washington. Mr. Karzai's two-day visit is focusing on various challenges he faces at home including a South-Korean hostages' crisis,the research in Taliban and Al Qaeda, mounting civilian casualties and a booming opium trade. In an interview broacast before his arrival Sun. Mr. Karzai said the discussion would include such issues as fighting terrorism, strengthening the Afghan military and the general security situation in the country.
4) Israel's PM Ehud Olmert and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas say they will meet today in the West Bank city of Jericho. VOA's Jim Tipple has report:
Mr. Olmert and Mr. Abbas are meeting less than a week after both men held seperate talks with US secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Secretary Rice travelled to the region to govern support for the Middle East peace conference to be held later this year. She says should move both sides close to achieve a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palistinian Conflict. Israeli and Palistinian negotiators say the talks between Mr. Olmert and Mr. Abbas will likely focus on the agenda for the conference.Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator told the Voice of Palestine Radio he wants the agenda to include subsequent issues... Erekat says the talk between Mr. Abbas and Mr. Olmert should include discussions on the future of Jerusalem, on prominent borders and on the dismantling of Israeli's settlement in the West Bank. Israeli officials say they want the meeting to focus on how to strengthen confidence-building measures taken as Abbas dismissed the Hamas-led Palestinian unity gov't and formed a new more moderate Palestinian gov't in the West Bank.
