Sept. 21
Have you ever longed to take an __________(异国风情的) adventure vacation? The Danum Valley, located on Borneo, the third largest island in the world, __________(召唤)adventurers to come and experience the wild. And come they do. Visitors from as far away as Finland make their way to this primary rainforest jungle in the heart of Sabah, East Malaysia.
The adventure begins in the coastal town of Lahad Datu. From there, the 80 km-drive over mostly bumpy roads to the __________(内陆) introduces the area. Visitors are welcomed with open arms when they arrive at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge, situated next to the Danum River. The Lodge houses a maximum of 60 guests in cabins linked by raised wooden walkways, which keep visitors from unexpectedly coming face to face with animals wandering around. The limited number of guests also controls the number of people in the forest at any one time thus protecting it.
Guides help groups of visitors or individuals identify the flora and fauna in the area. Birdwatching enthusiasts particularly enjoy the forest because it __________(充满)with over 275 species of birds, including seven species of the hornbill.
Sept. 22
The Danum Valley also serves as a __________(避难所、庇护所)to more than 110 __________(哺乳动物), including the Asian elephant, the clouded leopard, and the flying lemur. Among the 10 primate species that inhabit this area are the orangutan and proboscis monkey, which live only on Borneo.
Exploring the valley
__________(艰难行走) on different paths through the rainforest take place before and after breakfast, lunch and dinner. And visitors never know what awaits them around a bend. An orangutan and her offspring may be making their way across the treetops in search of food. Or hornbills may be calling to one another as they fly overhead before settling in the treetops.
Visitors can also climb up to the 27-meter-high canopy walkway(树冠廊道)for a different __________(远景)of the forest. Walking through the treetops gives everyone a bird’s eye view of their surroundings.
Night hiking opens up a new world to visitors. Animals like the mouse deer as well as a large variety of insects and creatures like the flying lizard come out to look for food.
With so much to see and experience. It’s no wonder the Danum Valley has the reputation as one of the best places to view Borneo’s wildlife.
